The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time time Lead Contracting Officer ([redacted]M) to work in the Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division (AFNWC/NCKC) at Peterson SFB, CO. Position supports the MC2S Branch.

This position is a non-supervisory NH-1102-03, which has a typical 2026 salary range of $91,870 - $142,022 (Locality for Colorado Springs, Colorado is 20.15% which is included; basic pay ranges from $90,925-$118,204); VoP is 83.
The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary contracting officer for a weapons system, sustainment, or support program office within the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. This position provides expert business advice and cradle to grave contracting support for the design, development, enhancement and ongoing maintenance for the MC2S weapons system and the Mission Support Team (MST) program.
This position is NOT eligible for full time or remote telework. Situational telework may be offered at the discretion of the hiring manager.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the Lead Contracting Officer for MC2S, you will provide business advice and contracting support for the Classified MC2S and Mission Support Team (MST) programs, shaping procurement strategies, advising senior leaders, and engaging industry to support the mission. As a geographically split Division you will have broad discretion and operate largely independently in your role.
DUTIES:
• Serves as Lead Procuring Contracting Officer with unlimited signatory authority for MC2S and MST, must have the ability to hold a TS/SCI clearance.
• Has complete authority for all contractual actions and phases of the efforts included in the MC2S and MST programs.
• Work efforts include a range of contract specializations such as negotiation, cost and price analysis, and administration.
• Plans, develops, and establishes the business and contractual strategy for the overall acquisition programs. Develops a pre-negotiation position, determines the types of contracts and negotiation authority to be used, and prepares justification. Strategy may require the application of astute business acumen to execute non-traditional acquisition methodologies including OTA's and the appointment to serve as an Agreements Officer.
• Functions as team leader during contract negotiations. Coordinates with the engineering and production departments, legal counsel, audit, and subordinate activities. Will solely negotiate the majority of contracts.
• Directs the full range of contract administration actions required for the acquisition program, including the issuance of contract modifications, negotiation of changes, exercise of options, investigation and resolution of contractor delays, contractor performance appraisal, subcontractor surveillance, disposition of claims, and similar matters.
• Serves as principal contracting advisor to the program management office and represents the agency or department as the program's contractual authority at conferences and meetings.

• Knowledge across a broad range of contracting topics and techniques and possession of analytical abilities.
• Ability to formulate unique business solutions for issues that lack precedence or obvious solutions.
• Skill to negotiate and/or defend findings and program support concepts.
• Ability to lead teams and originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established financial and/or time constraints.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relations.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
• U.S. CITIZENSHIP
• DAWIA Contracting Professional Certification.
• Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain and hold a TS/SCI security clearance. Failure to obtain or maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Current or previous earned unlimited DAF contracting officer warrant.
• This is a drug testing position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
• The employee must meet the continuing acquisition education requirements IAW DoDI 5000.66 paragraph E2.2.8.
• In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee is required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
• Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
