Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Lead Building Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management Group in and around the Hampton Roads, VA area.  The Lead Building Construction Inspector is to monitor the work of the contractor to ensure contract compliance for commercial/industrial construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity.  The successful candidate will manage the assigned elements of a construction project to assure quality of the contractor’s compliance with the plans and contract documents, manage project inspection personnel\staffing and serve as owner’s representative.

 

Responsibilities
  • Individual must be proactive in identifying field issues and developing solutions to keep the work moving.
  • Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms and specification
  • Coordinates and schedules various phases of construction inspection with the contractor, DGS representatives and other agencies
  • Review construction plans, inspect commercial or industrial buildings and other structures to determine compliance with applicable local, state, and national codes.
  • Familiarity with structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety building components
  • Ability to document all field activities, work in a collaborative manner with the owner and contractor and represent Dewberry and our clients in the highest capacity.
  • Identifies necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions
  • Makes field measurements of pay items
  • Observes and monitors contractor’s construction equipment
  • Familiarity with common computer programs such as MS Word and Excel for completing daily diaries, quantity calculations and other required tasks.
Required Skills & Required Experience
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree preferred but not required or 5+ years relative experience
  • C5 Commercial Combination Inspector ICC inspector certification preferred
  • B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification preferred
  • E2 Commercial Electrical Inspector certification preferred
  • M2 Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification preferred
  • P2 Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of commercial or residential building construction processes and applicable building codes and inspection techniques
  • Proficiency with document management software and construction management software (Smartsheet, SharePoint, FieldWire, GoCanvas, Plangrid, PowerBI, and other Project and Construction Management programs)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required
  • Must have the ability to work as a team player

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $95,000-$118,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
