In this position...

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Quality Inspection technician to join our Engine Manufacturing Development Operations (EMDO) team. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in precision dimensional inspection, gauging, and metrology for automotive engine components. This role requires strong blueprint interpretation skills, familiarity with advanced measurement equipment, and the ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights for engineering and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...
  • Perform detailed layout inspections and gauging on precision automotive engine components, including cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, crankshafts, camshafts, ancillary engine components, and electrification hardware.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints with strong command of GD&T principles and methods to ensure components meet design specifications.
  • Conduct casting and forging layout inspections to verify dimensional accuracy and manufacturing quality.
  • Apply both metric and English measurement standards accurately across inspection tasks.
  • Set up and operate precision measurement equipment, including Zeiss and CMM systems, Adcole, Opticline, Coherix, and Hommel surface finish and contouring instruments, to capture complex and precise measurement data.
  • Execute component cleanliness testing and analysis in accordance with Millipore processes.
  • Utilize drafting and 3D modeling software (CATIA V5, VisMockup, AutoCAD) to support inspection planning and analysis.
  • Communicate measurement results and findings clearly and professionally to engineering and machining stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and organized inspection data records in compliance with Ford EMDO Quality Operating Systems and processes.
  • Leverage MS Office tools for reporting, documentation, and data management.
  • Work independently and manage priorities effectively with minimal supervision.


Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in GD&T and engineering blueprint reading.
  • Hands-on experience with CMM and related precision metrology equipment.
  • Familiarity with quality systems, cleanliness standards, and CAD/3D modeling tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

This position is a salary grade 5 ranges from $65,100-$109,300.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
