Description

Reusable systems with frequent launch cadence are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. A highly operable, reliable, and robust ground system is an integral part of a fully reusable launch system. As a Launch High Power Engineer for our dedicated launch complex at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, you will be responsible for developing and commissioning a new launch pad from scratch. You will be responsible for all phases of the launch site lifecycle including overall architecture, engineering, build strategy, build execution, integration, commissioning, and site operations. As part of a small, well-supported team, you will have access to the resources you need to get the job done right while simultaneously boosting your skills at a pace that can't be matched in most other roles. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, own, and drive overall High-Power architecture & build strategy for critical ground systems including lightning protection systems, launch pad, propellant farms, horizontal integration facilities, payload processing facilities, and launch control centers.
  • Develop detailed electrical designs and specifications for systems including power distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, interior/exterior lighting, UPS units, generators, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring hardware/software, data/phone wiring, grounding systems, fire alarms, public address, and lightning protection.
  • Provide engineering support for troubleshooting electrical equipment and controllers; conduct load flow analysis and evaluate electrical equipment.
  • Ensure all electrical systems interface properly with mechanical systems and comply with power budgets. Coordinate with local utility personnel for installations and maintenance. Ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Oversee project activities including development of drawings, request for proposals, bid evaluations, subcontractor management, and construction. Manage project timelines, budgets, and ensure quality control throughout all phases of construction. Act as the primary point of contact for contractors and stakeholders.
  • Manage commissioning, operation, and maintenance of power systems.
  • Continuously maintain and improve the design configuration and physical configuration of the system throughout ongoing operations and maintenance.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a related role working electrical design, power distribution systems, switchgear, generators, and aerospace environments.
  • Strong expertise in reading power/control schematics and technical O&M manuals, with experience in VFDs, MODBUS communication, medium voltage distribution, and control panel design.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety), NFPA 780 (Lightning Protection).
  • Experience with DESR 6055.09, and AFMAN 32-1065, AFSPCMAN 91-710.
  • Proficient with power systems analysis tools such as ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering construction drawings and construction means & methods.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, work autonomously, receive and incorporate constructive feedback, and work well on a high performing team.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead external designers, vendors, and contractors while driving projects to completion quickly and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design, power distribution systems, switchgear, generators, and aerospace environments.
  • Extensive experience in aerospace, specifically orbital launch vehicle ground support equipment, and with DOD, USAF/USSF, NASA and other government agencies.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in electrical engineering.

Compensation

Target Levels:
  • Level 2 Range: $109,725 - $148,470
  • Level 3 Range: $129,150 - $193,620
  • Level 4 Range: $151,305 - $252,105
