Job Title: Large Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer III

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Type: Direct Hire

Compensation:

Work Model: Onsite - onsite

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical aspects of complex manufacturing projects from receipt of customer PO to shipment.
  • Determine material, fabrication, inspection, and testing requirements from customer PO, customer specifications, and/or standard specifications (e.g. NQA-1, ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
  • Create Nuclear Commercial Grade Dedication Plans and Technical Evaluations.
  • Interface with production planning to discuss optimum machining/manufacturing approach.
  • Planning fabrication sequences, fixturing, and managing heavy lifts for large weldments.
  • Create bills of material, manufacturing instructions (routers), weld maps, inspection reports, test reports, etc. for production and inspection activities.
  • Create test plans (pressure, load, electrical, etc.), perform testing, write test reports.
  • Provide purchasing requirements to purchasing agent based on drawing and specification requirements.
  • Select and manage outside vendors related to projects.
  • Frequent communication/guidance to production personnel regarding welding/assembly of projects.
  • Frequent technical communication with outside vendors.
  • Frequent technical communication with customer engineering groups.
  • CAD modeling and manufacturing drawing creation, as needed to support projects.
  • Fixture design, as needed to support projects.
  • Temporary assignment to other activities/duties as needed to support the business.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, or Industrial Engineering - or equivalent trade progression
  • 5+ years experience supporting weldments of 5+ tons and/or 20+ feet in at least one dimension, supporting industries such as heavy structural, pressure vessel, nuclear component, mining, shipbuilding, or power generation
  • Demonstrated ownership of weld sequence planning and distortion control on multi-pass, thick-section joints
  • Experience planning and directing heavy lifts, including rigging plans, lift points, and load paths
  • Experience with GD&T applied to large machined weldments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and work ethic
  • Proficiency reading technical specifications, machining and fabrication drawings, including GD&T and AWS weld symbols
  • Proficiency with CAD modeling/drafting (e.g., AutoCad, SolidWorks, Creo)
  • Ability to establish material/service purchasing requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with ERP Software (e.g., SAP, Global Shop, Mapics)
  • Experience working with 10CFR50 App B, NQA-1, ASME BPVC, MIL, DOE, NavSea standards
  • Good math and communication skills, written and verbal
