About the role, Your ImpactWe are hiring a Landscape Architect Department Lead to support and contribute to the growth of our Landscape Architecture within the Baxter & Woodman Land Development department. As Landscape Architecture Department Lead, you will provide leadership for the growth, management, and delivery of landscape architecture, planning, and land development services. You will oversee project execution, mentor staff, strengthen client relationships, support business development initiatives, and help shape the strategic direction of the practice.
This role is ideal for an experienced professional who enjoys balancing technical leadership, client service, project management, and team development within the Baxter and Woodman's service area.
What your day-to-day will look like• Oversee conceptual, schematic, and detailed landscape architecture plans and construction documents.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation.
• Assist in preparing conceptual, schematic, and detailed landscape plans.
• Guide entitlement, permitting, and development review processes.
• Provide technical expertise related to zoning, landscape ordinances, municipal standards, and development regulations.
- Conduct site analysis, including measuring, photographing, and documenting existing conditions.
- Lead quality assurance and quality control reviews for project deliverables.
- Coordinate closely with engineers, planners, architects, developers, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
- Help create graphics, renderings, and presentation materials for client meetings.
- Assist in ensuring internal communication and coordination of design efforts.
- Help develop cost estimates for landscape-related improvements.
- Assist in making presentations to clients, public officials, and the public.
- Participate in professional organizations and support efforts to advance the landscape architecture profession.
- Contribute to meeting departmental utilization and project goals.
- Lead the growth and management of the Landscape Architecture and Land Development practice.
- Establish departmental goals, quality standards, staffing strategies, and professional development initiatives
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with public and private-sector clients.
- Lead proposal preparation, interviews, and qualifications-based pursuits.
- Identify opportunities for expanding services and cultivating new business relationships
Education/Certification/Licenses Requirement- Bachelor's Degree in landscape architecture, land planning, or related discipline is required.
Must-haves, what you will bring- 15+ years of progressive landscape architecture, planning, or land development experience.
- Licensed Professional Landscape Architect (PLA/RLA).
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- Extensive experience with land development, entitlement, and municipal review processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of landscape architecture design, construction documentation, specifications, and permitting.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Land F/X.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring staff and leading teams.
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, resource planning, and profitability management.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience serving municipal clients in a development review or consulting capacity.
- Florida CPTED Practitioner certification or similar credential.
- Existing relationships with municipal agencies, developers, or public-sector organizations in Florida.
- Experience leading business development initiatives and proposal pursuits.
- Knowledge of transportation, infrastructure, parks, recreation, and public realm projects.
Compensation: The pay range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
