How you make a difference

The Labor Relations Corporate Counsel serves as Wellpath's subject matter expert on labor law and organized labor matters. This role oversees collective bargaining, union relationships, and labor-related compliance across multiple states. The position leads negotiations, interprets and administers labor agreements, and represents the company in arbitrations and NLRB proceedings. It provides daily guidance to HR and Operations on labor relations, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies. The Counsel also develops and delivers labor relations training, monitors legal developments, and ensures adherence to all federal and state labor laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead collective bargaining negotiations and manage union relationships across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provide expert legal guidance to HR, Operations, and leadership on labor law, compliance, and union-related issues.
  • Represent the company in arbitrations, grievances, and NLRB or administrative proceedings.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, monitor regulatory changes, and advise on necessary policy updates.
  • Develop and conduct training and audits on labor relations strategies and compliance practices.


Qualifications & Requirements

EDUCATION
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

EXPERIENCE
  • 3+ years of substantive labor relations experience.
  • Experience independently handling union contract negotiations (including California) and union avoidance strategy and implementation.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must be licensed to practice law in state of employment.
  • Must register as in-house counsel in Tennessee within 180 days of employment start date.
