Junior School (Grades 3-5) Performing Arts/Music Teacher Full-Time Position (Temporary) Southpointe is seeking an energetic, engaging, and collaborative educator to develop and deliver authentic, inquiry-based Performing Arts experiences within the Junior School. While the primary teaching responsibilities of this position may focus on Grades 3-5, the successful candidate must be willing and able to teach Performing Arts across the full Junior School, from Kindergarten through Grade 5, based on the needs of the program and school. Reporting to the Junior School Principal or designate, the Junior School Performing Arts Teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to a cohesive and dynamic Performing Arts program. The position is available immediately, with the start date to be mutually agreed upon by the successful candidate and the school. Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 3 Deliver an engaging and developmentally appropriate Performing Arts/Music program, with a primary focus on Grades 3-5, while demonstrating the flexibility and ability to teach across the full Kindergarten to Grade 5 continuum as required; 3 Design learning through an inquiry-based approach aligned with the philosophy and framework of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP); 3 Balance inquiry, creativity, and student exploration with the explicit teaching of foundational musical skills and concepts; 3 Develop students' skills in singing, rhythm, melody, notation, movement, composition, improvisation, instrumental music, and ensemble performance; 3 Provide progressive opportunities for students to learn and perform on instruments such as the recorder, Dood, Toot, percussion, and other age-appropriate instruments; 3 Introduce students to music from a variety of cultures, traditions, genres, and contexts; 3 Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to take creative risks, collaborate, perform, and develop confidence as musicians; 3 Assess and document student learning using practices consistent with the IB PYP and the school's approach to assessment; 3 Co-lead select classes that extend and enrich the Units of Inquiry beyond Performing Arts, supporting transdisciplinary learning and meaningful connections across the curriculum. 3 Differentiate instruction to support a range of abilities, experiences, interests, and learning needs. Collaboration & Community 3 Collaborate closely with the K-2 Performing Arts Teacher to ensure a cohesive, well-articulated, and high-quality Performing Arts program across the Junior School; 3 Co-plan curriculum, performances, productions, and Performing Arts initiatives to support continuity and progression across grade levels; 3 Collaborate with homeroom teachers and specialists to develop meaningful connections between Performing Arts and PYP Units of Inquiry; 3 Contribute actively to the broader life of the Junior School through assemblies, celebrations, special events, and community performances; 3 Maintain regular and professional communication with parents and families regarding student learning, performances, events, and Performing Arts opportunities; 3 Regularly update and maintain the school's Performing Arts webpage, ensuring program, performance, event, and opportunity information is current and engaging; 3 Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families and contribute to a collaborative and supportive school culture. Performances & Productions 3 Plan, coordinate, rehearse, and lead the Junior School Winter and Spring Concerts in collaboration with the K-2 Performing Arts Teacher; 3 Lead the production of a Junior School Musical, including musical preparation, rehearsals, performance, and collaboration with colleagues on staging and production; 3 Lead the Junior School Band program, supporting instruction across a range of band and orchestral instruments and developing students' musicianship, instrumental proficiency, and ensemble skills; 3 Select engaging and developmentally appropriate repertoire for Band, concerts, the Junior School Musical, and other performances; 3 Create meaningful opportunities for students to share their learning through concerts, assemblies, celebrations, and community events; 3 Foster students' confidence, creativity, musicianship, teamwork, commitment, and stage presence through authentic performance experiences. Qualifications 3 Degree, training, or demonstrated expertise in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field. 3 IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) training or experience is considered an asset. 3 Additional training in instrumental music, band, musical theatre, or elementary music education is considered an asset. 3 Bachelor of Education or equivalent; 3 BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate; 3 Preference may be given to teachers with at minimum 1-2 years of experience and those with PYP experience; Salary 3 Southpointe's teacher salary grid is at 6% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid; 3 The annual salary for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2026-2027 school year ranges from $72,588 to $123,162 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid; 3 Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
