Junior Federal Financial Auditor

Salary: $84,000 - $105,000/year

Empirical is seeking a Junior Federal Financial Auditor to support a high-visibility federal financial management and audit readiness mission. In this role, you will contribute to meaningful work that strengthens the integrity, transparency, and accountability of a major federal program while building valuable experience in federal internal controls, audit response, and financial statement support.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare audit documentation, coordinate with external auditors, and support sample selections that help keep audit activities organized and on track.
  • Maintain audit request logs, evidence indexing, crosswalks, and traceability to source documentation to support clear, defensible audit responses.
  • Conduct internal control testing, walkthroughs, and maturity assessments that provide insight into process effectiveness and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform root cause analysis of audit findings and deficiencies to help identify practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Develop, track, and support Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) and remediation activities that move audit readiness efforts forward.
  • Support continuous monitoring, compliance assessments, and internal control automation initiatives that improve efficiency and accountability.
  • Prepare audit reports, dashboards, and briefings that communicate progress, risks, and results to stakeholders.


What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing federal internal audit, audit consulting, or audit response, with a strong interest in supporting mission-focused federal financial management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation or security clearance.


Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with GAO Yellow Book, GAO Green Book, OMB Circular A-123, and FMFIA and FFMIA.
  • Experience supporting external federal financial statement audits.
