SOUTHLAND is currently offering a $3,000 hiring bonus for Journeyperson Mechanics - receive $1,500 after 6 months and the remaining $1,500 following one year of employment.The shift for this position is Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities and will be required to perform field work on down buses.
- Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses in assigned yard and also in a shop environment
- Diagnose equipment problems
- CVIP Inspections
- Respond to breakdowns
- Spring and winter maintenance
- Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
- Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
- Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
Requirements- Journeyperson Ticket (Automotive or Heavy Duty)
- Must possess own tools for the job
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- 2 - 5 years related experience
- Valid driver's license
- CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License preferred
- Exposure to working on diesel, propane, and gasoline engines
- Experience with automatic transmissions
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong diagnostic skills
- Computer proficiency
- Must be physically fit for duty
- Ability to push, pull, drag and lift items up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in cramped or awkward positions
