The Opportunity:
As a Joint Operations Center (JOC) Watch Officer supporting the SCOPES Program at USSOUTHCOM, you will support the Joint Task Force-Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM) by serving as a key member of a 24/7 Joint Operations Center responsible for maintaining operational awareness across the theater. You will monitor, analyze, and synthesize information from joint, interagency, coalition, and partner nation sources to provide senior leaders with timely, accurate, and actionable situational awareness. Your expertise will enable informed decision-making, support crisis response, and ensure leadership maintains a comprehensive understanding of ongoing operations across the multi-domain operational environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and assess multi-domain operational activities across air, land, maritime, cyber, and partner nation environments to maintain an accurate and current operational picture.
  • Collect, analyze, and fuse information from Joint, Service, interagency, coalition, and partner nation sources to identify significant events, emerging issues, and operational impacts.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and deliver timely reports, executive summaries, briefings, and other operational products supporting senior leaders, higher headquarters, and mission partners.
  • Serve as a central coordination point during routine operations, exercises, crises, and contingency events, ensuring timely dissemination of critical operational information.
  • Utilize Command and Control (C2) systems, military messaging platforms, and collaboration tools to maintain situational awareness and support operational decision-making.
  • Coordinate across functional staff directorates and external organizations to ensure operational reporting remains accurate, synchronized, and responsive to leadership requirements.
  • Mentor junior watch personnel, promote standardized watch floor procedures, and contribute to continuity of operations through effective knowledge sharing and operational best practices.


Qualifications:

Required:
  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of military experience supporting a Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Service Component Headquarters, Joint Operations Center, or equivalent operational headquarters.
  • Experience serving on a Joint Operations Center (JOC) or equivalent watch floor supporting 24/7 operations, crisis response, or contingency operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, analyze, and report on multi-domain operational activities while operating in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency with Command and Control (C2) systems, including GCCS, military messaging systems, and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and OneNote).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level reports, briefings, and operational summaries.


Desired:
  • Experience coordinating with the National Military Command Center (NMCC), Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, interagency organizations, or multinational partners.
  • Knowledge of joint doctrine, operational reporting procedures, and theater-level command and control processes.
  • Experience supporting major joint exercises, contingency operations, or real-world crisis response in a watch floor environment.
