Position Overview

Citi is looking for an experienced Lead Applications Developer to take ownership of complex Java microservices engineering initiatives and drive the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-scale application systems within a global technology organization. In this senior individual contributor role, you will set technical direction across teams, translating business needs into scalable, high-quality software solutions that directly support Citi's products and operations worldwide. If you thrive on solving high-impact engineering challenges and raising the bar for those around you, this is the opportunity to do it at global scale.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and deliver application systems built on Java microservices, ensuring designs meet enterprise architecture standards and support long-term scalability goals.
  • Lead end-to-end software development across design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation, setting technical standards that raise the quality of team output.
  • Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and product management teams to integrate systems effectively and identify improvements needed to launch new products and streamline processes.
  • Analyze and resolve high-impact technical problems by applying deep knowledge of software systems, business processes, and industry engineering practices.
  • Evaluate how application, infrastructure, and architecture domains interconnect, using that understanding to inform sound engineering decisions across the stack.
  • Mentor and coach mid-level engineers and analysts, providing technical guidance, reviewing work, and distributing tasks to accelerate team delivery.
  • Assess technical and business risk during design and implementation, ensuring solutions meet compliance requirements and uphold engineering quality standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in software application development or systems analysis, with a track record of delivering production-grade solutions.
  • Deep expertise in Java microservices development, including system design, API integration, and distributed application architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex software projects from initiation through to successful implementation.
  • Subject matter expertise in at least one core area of applications development, with the ability to set technical direction within that domain.
  • Strong systems analysis skills with the ability to evaluate complex application workflows and translate findings into clear engineering solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment, adapting plans quickly without losing sight of delivery commitments.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise or financial services technology environments.
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or containerization technologies as part of a broader delivery ecosystem.
