Position OverviewHands-on engineer responsible for building and configuring the Red Hat-hosted HIP layer - Apache Camel microservices on Spring Boot, and API exposure/management through 3Scale. Implements the core integration logic that connects source systems into the messaging/event backbone and exposes services externally.
Key Responsibilities- Build Camel routes/microservices on Spring Boot implementing the integration flows defined in the LLDs
- Implement Enterprise Integration Patterns (content-based routing, aggregation, splitting, transformation) within Camel
- Configure and expose APIs through 3Scale - API definitions, security policies (API keys/OAuth), rate limiting, and versioning
- Containerize and deploy services to OpenShift, including configuration of health checks, scaling, and resilience (circuit breakers, timeouts)
- Implement logging, tracing, and monitoring for Camel services (e.g., via Hawtio, Prometheus/Grafana, distributed tracing)
- Implement error handling, retry, and compensation logic within Camel routes per design standards
- Support integration testing, including contract testing of exposed APIs and route-level unit/integration tests
- Collaborate with the Kafka and Azure engineers on message contracts at the HIP boundary
Mandatory Skills / Experience Required- 4+ years hands-on experience with Apache Camel (Java DSL preferred) and Spring Boot microservices
- Experience deploying and operating services on Red Hat OpenShift (or Kubernetes equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with 3Scale API Management - API definition, policy configuration, security, developer portal basics
- Strong Java development skills, including unit/integration testing frameworks (JUnit, Camel Test Kit)
- Understanding of resilience patterns (circuit breaker, retry, timeout - e.g., via Resilience4j or Camel's own error handlers)
- Familiarity with Kafka connectivity from Camel (camel-kafka component) since HIP sits upstream of the messaging layer
