IT System Administrator - Journey

Salary: $85,764 - $115,344

Reports to: Director of Computing Infrastructure

This position reports to the Director of Computing Infrastructure and provides support for email system management, maintenance, and configuration, automating system processes, and ensuring the functionality of all servers on campus. This position develops and implements automated processes and ensures that all network servers function efficiently, are secure, and meet the college's needs. This position aims to maintain, develop, automate, and implement the network servers on campus. Advanced systems administrative knowledge is required to do this.
Essential Functions

  • Creates, configures, implements, and maintains virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers. Resulting in reliable network systems for use by the campus.
  • Works with the CIO and other system administrators to develop data storage and disaster recovery strategies and monitor cyber security of systems. Resulting in a secure environment and a reliable disaster recovery plan.
  • Recommends in developing standards for implementing software and hardware for network servers This is critical for the integration and implementation of new systems.
  • Implements, Upgrades, configures, and maintains e-mail systems: Microsoft (MS) Office 365, and MS Exchange. This is the main avenue of communication for the organization. The proper configuration, upgrades and maintenance ensures this system is reliable.
  • Works with other departments providing server and application support for Authentication, phone, and environment controls.
  • Routinely verifies system status and performance, effectively fine tuning systems as needed. To ensure the network servers are operating at optimal performance.
  • Performs as Essential Personnel for emergencies and off hours support.
  • Assists in conducting searches and recovering email in Office 365 eDiscovery.
  • Supports the current Amazon Web Services (AWS) server/file backup system for retention and disaster recovery. Essential for system recovery in case of a network server failure. Part of the team for disaster recovery.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other senior technical staff to permanently resolve recurring or common issues; escalates to management when appropriate.
  • Provides assistance and training on Exchange 365 and server applications to lower-level technicians.
  • Works with other system administrators and the supervisor on the creation of security policy for all network servers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • System administration - documented experience focusing on Windows, Active Directory, and Linux environments, including application support.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and VEEAM/AWS backup solutions.
  • Experience in endpoint device management configuration and compliance via Intune.
  • Expertise in SCCM and endpoint image creation and management.
  • Experience in Active Directory infrastructure components such as domain controller setup, AD sites and services, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, network infrastructure, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Knowledge of identity management principles, MFA, Conditional Access, and Entra ID Connect.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of IT security frameworks (NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001).

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $85,764 - $115,344 annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A, when you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Associate (WPEA) Union. Classified positions qualify for the following benefits:
