We are seeking a
hands-on IT Leader to
lead and actively contribute to enterprise systems and infrastructure operations across multiple sites. Based onsite in Baltimore, MD, this role manages a cross-functional team (Systems, Infrastructure, and Network Engineers) while staying deeply engaged in the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of
Windows and Linux environments,
virtualization,
hybrid cloud,
network services, and
data center operations. The ideal candidate balances
strategic planning and
people leadership with direct technical execution to deliver high availability, security, and scalability for mission-critical systems.
What YOU will do:Leadership & People Management- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Systems, Infrastructure, and Network Engineers; driving towards continuous improvement.
- Own team resourcing, workload balancing, and assist with prioritization of projects.
- Act as the escalation point for complex incidents, guiding root cause analysis (RCA) and durable corrective actions.
- Champion operational excellence, reliability engineering practices (SLAs/SLOs), and a culture of documentation-first and automation-first.
Infrastructure, Virtualization & Data Center Operations- Lead and contribute to virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V) and storage integrations.
- Oversee data center operations: rack/stack, structured cabling, power/cooling, and environmental monitoring.
- Manage backup/restore and disaster recovery (DR) strategies; conduct routine DR drills and improve RPO/RTO outcomes.
- Assist with architect, implement, and maintain Windows Server and Linux servers.
- Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, certificate services/PKI, and identity integrations (LDAP/AD).
- Standardize golden images, baselines, and configuration drift controls across multi-site environments.
- Implement enterprise monitoring and alerting (Monitoring /SEIM tools).
Hybrid Cloud & Modernization- Design and support hybrid architecture (primarily Azure, with exposure to AWS/Oracle Cloud) for identity, networking, and workload placement.
- Evaluate, select, and manage vendors and solutions; contribute to budgeting and lifecycle planning.
Security, Compliance & Governance- Configure and maintain system hardening and patch baselines aligned to CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001 (and DoD STIGs/FedRAMP where applicable).
- Maintain crypto standards procedures, PKI, privileged access controls, and audit-ready evidence.
- Partner with Cybersecurity for vulnerability management, risk treatment plans, and successful audit outcomes.
Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Delivery- Assist team in achieving operational KPIs (e.g., uptime targets, patch SLAs, vulnerability remediation timelines, change success rate).
- Lead migrations, upgrades, and multi-site rollouts with change management discipline; ensure minimal disruption.
- Collaborate with application teams, security, and business stakeholders; translate business requirements into resilient technical solutions.
- Maintain accurate architecture diagrams, inventories/CMDB, and procedural documentation.
What YOU must bring to SucceedMust have at least a bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a relevant discipline
- 10+ years in systems/infrastructure engineering across Windows and Linux, supporting multi-site operations.
- 3+ years in a team lead/supervisory role with proven people leadership and incident escalation ownership.
- Expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, certificate services/PKI, and identity integrations.
- Advanced experience with VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V; strong storage/backup/DR knowledge.
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, routing/switching basics, and firewalls; ability to partner effectively with Network Engineers.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring/observability tools (e.g., LogicMonitor) and SIEM/log analytics.
- Demonstrated success in compliance-aligned environments (CIS, NIST, ISO) and audit preparation.
- This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. Desired Characteristics- Certifications: MCSE, RHCE/RHCSA, VMware VCP, Azure Administrator (AZ-104)/Azure Architect (AZ-305), CompTIA Security+.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace/defense) and clearance eligibility (if applicable).

Estimate salary range for this role: $145,000 to $180,000 per year. ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
