Overview

The Information Technology (IT) Cloud Engineer II is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) cloud platform. This role focuses on the day-to-day operations, administration, and monitoring of cloud environments, taking technical direction from senior engineers. Will implement designs, troubleshoot issues, and utilize automation tools to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of the HMH cloud infrastructure. This position is a key part of the team responsible for maintaining a stable and highly available cloud environment, contributing to the success of IT and the growth of HMH.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an IT Cloud Engineer II with Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  •  Support the day-to-day operations of the cloud platform, including monitoring, maintenance, and incident response.
  •  Implement cloud infrastructure designs and configurations as directed by senior engineers using infrastructure as code principles.
  •  Participate in cloud environment build-outs, software installation, and system upgrades, including patches and fixes.
  •  Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in the cloud environment, serving as an escalation point for junior staff and support teams.
  •  Utilize and maintain automation scripts and processes for provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of cloud services.
  •  Support infrastructure deployment using a DevOps approach, assisting with deployment pipelines using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps.
  •  Implement production changes during defined maintenance windows and participate in the on-call rotation for production support.
  •  Create and maintain operational documentation for cloud systems, procedures, and processes.
  •  Assist senior engineers with requirements analysis, testing, and deployment of cloud platform projects.
  •  Adhere to established best practices for security, reliability, and cost-effectiveness within the cloud environment.
  •  Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure the successful integration of cloud services with other enterprise systems.
  •  Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  •  Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline such as Computer Science or Information Technology; and/or applicable technical certificate; and/or equivalent (4 years) related experience.
  •  Minimum of 3+ (7+ if no degree) years of experience in IT systems installation, operations, and support, with a focus on virtualized or cloud systems.
  •  Good collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  •  Foundational knowledge of core cloud services (IaaS, PaaS) and concepts (virtualization, networking, storage).
  •  Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as Google Cloud Platform and/or Microsoft Azure.
  •  Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
  •  Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or ARM/Bicep.
  •  Understanding of DevOps concepts and experience with Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) tools.
  •  Experience working within a production change control process.
  •  Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a willingness to learn new technologies.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  •  Experience working in a healthcare or other highly regulated environment.
  •  Minimum of 4+ years of experience in IT systems operations and support.
  •  Cloud certification in Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure.
  •  Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  •  Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
  •  Exposure to monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Google Cloud Operations Suite, Azure Monitor).

 

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  •  Relevant entry-level IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Cloud Essentials).
  •  Google Associate Cloud Engineer.
  •  HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
