Overview

The IS Mechanical Designer IV will design mechanical systems, components, or assemblies using engineering principles.

Responsibilities
  • Works closely with project managers, engineers and contractors to create unique high-level concepts and designs for all assigned projects.
  • Works closely with the team to ensure the successful execution of goals of all assigned projects.
  • Conducts field surveys to identify existing equipment types and system capabilities.
  • Produces, with limited supervision, design documents including drawings, system flow diagrams and architecture, wiring diagrams, construction details, and equipment scheduling.
  • Delivers concepts and designs according to strict project deadlines.
  • Contributes to all areas of the creative process and department.
  • Handles the most complex issues.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to team members. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor.
  • Provides training to designer level staff on basic design principles and standards.
  • Assists the engineer in the development of mechanical and controls design standards.
Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 6+ years of installation and/or design experience
  • Building Automation System design experience - Preferred systems include Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane,
  • Struxureware, and Tridium
  • Possesses expert knowledge of the subject matter
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Technical and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Vision and creativity.
  • Planning skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree
  • Building Automation System design and sequence writing experience - Preferred systems include Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, Struxureware, and Tridium
  • HVAC Design and Commissioning experience - Preferred systems include Chilled Water, Heating Water, Condenser Water, and Steam
  • Higher Education and Healthcare design experience
Travel Requirements
  • 10-25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.
  • Noisy environment.
  • Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
