Responsibilities

Pay rate ranges from $92.57 to $100.82 based on experience. Unit Notes:Department: IR | RN Manager
Must have Unit Manager Experience
*Required Certifications: BLS ACLS, PALS (Traveler MUST have PALS certification, peds experience not necessary).*

- # suites/labs: 1 IR room. Cath Lab, (8th floor) is used for Vascular Procedures. (can go to both units within the same day).
7 RNs staffed.
- # cases per day on average: IR 5-8 procedures. CT prep/ IV starts for about 50 patients/ day.
- Required Certifications: BLS ACLS, PALS (Traveler MUST have PALS certification, peds experience not necessary).
- Common diagnoses: 7 nurses: 1 in special procedures (can have second RN if sedation is needed), 1 to breast biopsies, 1
in US: thyroid needle aspiration, CT/MRI: for scan preps, IV starts for peds and adults sedation cases, oral preps, and
patient monitoring for pacemaker patients. IR procedures with CT: a lot of various biopsies (ex. IR breast biopsies), and US
procedures. Complex Vascular: Embolization of bleeds, fibroids and pre surgical tumors, Thrombectomies of Pulmonary
Embolies, Deep Vein Thrombosis utilizing INARI or EKOS Systems, Drains: abscesses, pleural effusions, hip and knee
collections, abscesses, abdominal fluid (paracentesis), Pain management: injections in cervical spine, thoracic and lumbar
spine, in shoulder, hip and knees. Lines: Permcaths, PICCs, ports, tunneled catheters, chemo infusion ports, interrogate
fistulas.
- Job Duties: Assessment and charting is done per the Radiology Flowsheet. Patient management in all 3 phases of
procedure (pre, intra and post). Communicating with physician and Mid-level regarding plan of care or changes in
patient's disposition. IV insertions and CT preps for scheduled patients.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in IR. Must be proficient in IV starts. Open to fist time travelers. Critical care exposure/
experience is a bonus.
- EMR/Equipment: Allscipts
- Interventionalist hours/on call: IR Chair is in house with another MD all day, after 5p on call.
- Manager/Charge Nurse: Charge nurse, coordinating and running the calendar. Will take patients if needed to help out.
- IR Techs: A CST is paired with the physician- IR tech comes from IR Radiology Department.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 7a- 730p and 7p start times 12 hour shifts. Lunch is generally an hour, with two (2) 15 minute breaks
on a shift. Travelers to give availability and they will do their best to accommodate requests, but ask travelers to stay
flexible and fill gaps in permanent scheduling; do not guarantee block scheduling. Excessive call-ins are taken seriously
and could lead to termination.
- Weeknight/Call Requirements: No Call, 2 RN perm staff on at night.
- Weekend/Call Requirements: No Call, 2 RN perm staff on at night.
- Holiday/Call Requirements: Perm staff to cover.
- What is call response time?: N/A
- Floating Requirements: No, only go to Cath lab for the IR specific cases. Bronx Care is mindful of RN a background in IR
for utilization in IR and CT/MRI areas.
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue, if go to Cath lab can wear surgical scrubs or disposables.
- Unit Specific Orientation: 3 shifts and manger to evaluate if need more support. Documentation is electronic and paper
charting, based on the modality and procedure. All IR procedures are in the EMR - Allscripts.
