General Summary

Serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, driving internal communication strategies that align with business objectives and foster a connected, informed, and engaged workforce. This role combines strategic insight with storytelling expertise to craft clear, compelling messaging across internal channels, ensuring alignment with organizational values and priorities. Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, shapes the employee experience, supports change initiatives, and amplifies leadership voice throughout the organization. Must be exceptional strategists, advisors and creative thinkers and enjoy being part of a highly collaborative, innovative, and data-driven Marketing and Communications function.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Advances WellSpan's strategic plan by developing best-in-class internal communication approaches that drive alignment, pride, trust and ownership in the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of the organization.
  • Provides strategic internal communications counsel to regional, medical group and business support executives. Identifies priorities, develops internal communications plans and drives measurable results in internal alignment, pride, trust and ownership leading to higher engagement.
  • Develops a deep understanding of all internal audiences and how to most effectively connect with them through executive communications, storytelling, internal news, events and other communication activities
  • Crafts high impact internal communications that engages both the hearts and minds of internal audiences. Examples include feature stories, speeches, newsletter articles, blog posts, and presentations. Leverage technology and artificial intelligence for consistent messaging and style appropriate for the various channels.
  • Develops metrics for all communication plans, contributes to function's dashboards and embraces evidence-based communication planning.
  • Works collaboratively with Marketing & Patient Communications, Public Relations and Creative Services to deliver high impact integrated plans.
  • Regularly scans internal and external environment for best practices and opportunities; manages issues and opportunities impacting the system's reputation and brand.
  • Ensures compliance with WellSpan brand identity and nomenclature standards across all services, physician practices and facilities within local system of care, as well as Marketing and Communications.
  • Responsible for photography and videography of system functions and other related activities.
  • Serves as a role model and coach to internal communications specialists and oversight on tactical execution.

  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Travel Requirements:
  • Estimated Amount: 15% - Periodic travel required primarily for meetings, trainings, and periodic visits to clients, project sites, or system locations.

Work Experience:
  • 7 years Experience in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations, preferably with experience in a large, complex healthcare organization. Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written/oral communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills and willingness to embrace new technology and artificial intelligence.

  • Familiarity with internal communications platforms and tools (e.g., Yammer, intranet systems).
  • Strong project management and organization abilities.
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to coach and mentor peers.
