Our Alberta Water Team (based in Edmonton) has an opportunity for an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer with a focus on hydraulic modeling. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, detail-oriented team player who is excited about municipal water infrastructure, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management and project design/coordination. The qualified candidate will perform various tasks which may include hydraulic modeling (stormwater, sanitary sewers, potable water), engineering design (concept, preliminary and detailed designs), calculations, data analysis, reporting, project management support, coordination of technical disciplines, and other engineering assignments, all in a friendly, fast-paced work environment. Your Key Responsibilities
  • This role will be supporting multi-disciplinary municipal water resources and civil projects, related to new construction and infrastructure renewal, with a focus on municipal infrastructure (typically water and drainage related)
  • Perform hydraulic modeling tasks in a variety of software related to stormwater management, stormwater sewers, sanitary sewers, combined sewers and potable water systems. Working knowledge of PCSWMM, Mike+, InfoWorks ICM, WaterCAD and/or similar softwares is required (along with ability to learn the software you don't currently have experience with).
  • On some assignments, the candidate will oversee and support the hydraulic modeling being completed by our junior modelers.
  • Detailed studies and design tasks associated with water related projects including site civil, conveyance and water resources projects
  • Writing reports, design briefs and proposals
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your written, technical and graphic work, and for completing work on-time and on-budget
  • Coordinating design drawings and specification development
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams towards a common goal of delivering projects on time and on budget
  • Assist Project Managers with various duties including progress and scope tracking, schedule management, change management and other tasks
  • Attending and conducting internal, client and contractor meetings and documenting the meetings with minutes.
  • Provide technical mentorship to Engineers-in-Training
  • Share your engineering knowledge with other members or our team and be eager to learn from your colleagues


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Sound understanding of water, environmental principles, and engineering concepts, including hydraulics and hydrology.
  • Working knowledge of a few of the various software for planning and design of water infrastructure facilities (GlobalMapper, ArcView GIS, PCSWMM, Mike suite, InfoWorks ICM, WaterCAD) is required, along with the ability to learn new software as needed.
  • A strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure design and construction is required.
  • Commitment to client satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality work products.
  • Previous experience working with municipalities, utility owners or in engineering consulting.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, responsibilities and projects and adjust to changing demands.
  • Highly skilled in common desktop packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to produce robust technical writing pieces (e.g. reports or proposals).
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular business hours when needed.
  • Experience with Project Coordination and/or Project Management will be considered an asset.
  • Contract Administration experience for construction projects will also be considered an asset.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering from an accredited university, preferably in the water resources, and/or environmental disciplines.
  • Registered with APEGA as a P.Eng. or as an E.I.T. who will be eligible for a P.Eng. within ~1 year (or eligible to register).
  • Minimum 4 years of demonstrated related experience.

Work Environment is a typical office environment with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. The successful candidate may work partially remotely, if preferred. Optional field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
