Full Job Description
Our global team is growing, we are currently recruiting for an Intermediate to Senior Marine Structural Engineer to join our Marine and Coastal Group. The role is ideally based in our Burnaby office but for the right person we may have flexibility on the location.

About the role:
  • Plan, design, develop and assist with the management of projects for the construction or repair of port and other marine structural installations and systems related to transportation services.
  • Perform marine engineering work for all design phases including concept, basic and detailed engineering for different types of projects (inspection and maintenance, repair, expansion, new installations and construction, etc.)
  • Be client facing, with an excellent grasp of marine structural engineering, including port operations, seismic and construction considerations.
  • Work well within a global engineering and drafting team and direct staff to produce the required technical deliverables and documents (design criteria, drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, Material Take-Offs, etc.)
  • Perform Engineer of Record duties as required.
  • Review technical work performed by other engineers and specialists. Provides sound engineering judgement and advice and contribute to the preparation of study reports.
  • Conduct field work, site inspections and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Liaise with colleagues, clients, sub-consultants, contractors and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support other business units and disciplines including Coastal Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Handling, Logistics and Simulations and others with their inquiries related to Ports, Marine and Transportation solutions.
  • Prepare and/or support preparation of proposals and estimates for prospective assignments with strong commercially awareness.
  • Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and strengthen client relationships.
  • Support the ongoing advisory study work being undertaken.
  • Oversee, mentor and guide junior engineers and co-op students.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

About You:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural engineering.
  • Ideally 10 to 15 years, relevant industry experience in the design, planning and assessment of maritime and port infrastructure for all design phases. Is capable of undertaking designs from concept to ready for construction.
  • Hold a Professional Engineer designation - eligible to be registered with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia or other province/territory.
  • Familiarity with structural modelling software, and strong understanding and use of applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience in dealing with clients and contractors directly as a client-oriented professional
  • Experience in the construction marine structures. On-site experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring junior engineers and leading project teams and workgroups.
  • Experience in managing/leading projects of various sizes, including multi-disciplinary projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills
  • Understanding of financial reports and project budgets and schedules would be an asset.
  • Well-developed written and oral skills in English (French, Spanish and/or Portuguese is an asset) with experience in delivering high quality presentations and reports.
  • Experience in the design and construction of marine structures in the arctic would be an asset.
