Job Description

Due to continuing strong growth, our Tailings and Mine waste services we are looking for an experienced Intermediate Tailings Engineer based in the Canada West region, to complement our existing Geostructural Design - Dams and Tailings team. GHD has a significant profile across Australia in tailings management and mine waste services for Tier 1 mining clients.

As a member of our global tailings and mine waste network, you will be responsible for managing projects related to the closure of mine tailings storage facilities within GHD's global mining community. Strong experience in the design, construction, closure, and construction supervision of tailings storage facilities is desirable, ideally within a consulting engineering environment.

Working on a diverse range of projects and clients, you will:
  • Contribute to project teams in planning and preparing the closure of tailings and waste rock storage facilities, including surface water management, stability analyses, preparation of conceptual and feasibility reports, construction drawings, water balances, planning of tailings deposition activities, and dam breach analyses.
  • Play a key role in the technical management and delivery of projects, often within multidisciplinary teams, for planning, feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction works.
  • Prepare technical specification documentation for the closure of containment infrastructure, including mine tailings, waste rock, water management ponds, and related facilities.
  • Contribute to client relationship development, both nationally and internationally, by leveraging internal and external networks.
  • Mentor and train other junior members of GHD staff.
  • As needed, provide support to GHD's broader geotechnical team, particularly on dike and dam projects.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a university degree in engineering or earth sciences; a graduate degree would be an asset.
  • Experience in selecting closure concepts, assessing risks, developing closure strategies, planning, detailed engineering, and construction and construction supervision.
  • Experience with environmental aspects of mine closure, including permitting, would be an asset.
  • Have relevant experience for the position.
  • Hold, or be in the process of obtaining, a Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A dynamic individual who is ready to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, often on international projects.
  • Ability to adapt to constantly evolving requirements and priorities.
