Job Title: Intermediate Systems Engineer, Defence Communication Systems Job Location: Ottawa, ON Job Code: 38184Job Schedule: Day ShiftCompensation Range: Between $85,500 - $135,000 CDN annually The candidate must have a complete understanding of the systems engineering process from concept phase through in-service support. The candidate must be adept at functional analysis, requirements allocation & traceability, trade-off studies, system integration and test. The candidate must be competent interpreting technical requirements, architecture and interface design, and system/subsystem integration. An understanding of functional and allocated baselines in addition to high level and detailed level design approaches is required. Working knowledge of standard system engineering processes is expected - for example: MIL-STD-499, EIA-632, IEEE 1220 or ISO 15288.
Essential Functions: - Contribute to bids and proposals by analyzing customer requirements, developing system architectures, selecting subsystems and/or components, and evaluating design compliance and technical risks;
- Create and maintain system architecture documents;
- Allocate and derive requirements for subsystem elements;
- Coordinate interfaces between system components and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs);
- Conduct engineering studies and analyses;
- Manage technical performance measures and engineering budgets (power, weight, design margin, link budgets, etc.);
- Identify risks, write risk statements, and prepare risk mitigation strategies;
- Manage engineering changes and design baselines;
- Develop test plans and procedures to verify and validate requirements;
- Design, implement and execute system test cases. Analyze and evaluate test results;
- Develop technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors, identify potential suppliers, define selection criteria and evaluate vendor proposals;
- Develop system level designs;
- Document designs;
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing, integration, test, and in-service support activities.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Requires proficiency in one or more area of defence communication systems technology (for example, radio communications, telephony & audio communication systems, secure data networks).
- Experience applying systems engineering processes within a defence project or within a similar project structure.
- Working knowledge of regulations, standards and processes related defence communication systems.
- Proficient in MS Office tools.

Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO SECRET security clearance.
