About the role:

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure and Services, the Intermediate Systems Administrator will provide support to the hospital's compute environment which includes servers, operating systems, SAN, backup/restore technologies etc.

The role is part of the Tier 3 team, which means that the role is expected to handle any escalations and support the ICT Service Desk, the Business and Clinical Applications Team, vendors and partners (such as eHealth Ontario, SHINE partners, LHINs etc.). The incumbent is expected to use their technical knowledge to troubleshoot, deploy various tools and systems to meet the requirements of both the operational business, technical and application teams.

The position requires participation in a rotational On-Call service for the hospital.
What you'll be doing:
  • Responsible for monitoring the hospital's ticketing system and in particular, the queue for the Server team to ensure timely resolution of user issues.
  • Responsible for installing new hardware such as servers, appliances and systems for new projects.
  • Performs system administration tasks associated with all systems - test, dev, training and production systems.
  • Provides on-going customization and maintenance of system access to ensure and enforce strict security policies in accordance with what has been outlined by the Information Security Policy. This includes system patching utilizing hospital patching administration tools.
  • Plans, implements and tests contingency plans for various hardware and software environments.
  • Performs troubleshooting of the systems requiring immediate attention
  • Responsible for the creation and commissioning of servers as required by the project/initiatives
  • Liaises with the vendor community and application analysts to determine the needs / requirements for the application being installed;
  • Installs and fine tunes various systems for deployment
  • Completes testing within the lab environment as required and requested;
  • Responsible for setting up system monitoring using third party monitoring tools; anti-virus exclusions, back-ups for systems; servers to capture base-line usage.
  • Creates technical documentation for end users, ICT Service Desk, Application teams
  • Builds Technical documentation;
  • Research new technologies and issues that are affecting the organization
  • Responsible for training other members of the team;
  • Participates in project work and assignments related to Infrastructure;
  • Ability to function within a 7/24 environment and participate in a rotational On-Call.
  • Other duties as required


What you bring:
  • An undergraduate degree or Diploma in a related field (IT, Business, etc.)is required
  • Other certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA etc.
  • Minimum six years' of related experience is required
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Office 365, Intune is required
  • Experience managing SAN Infrastructure, MDM technologies, F5 and Backup technology is preferred
  • Knowledge of scripting language (Powershell) is preferred
  • Experience in SCCM, WSUS is preferred
  • Experience in VMWare vSphere, Horizon VDI, thin clients preferred
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organization, conceptual and decision-making skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
