This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intermediate Level Structural Engineer for our Lake Oswego, Oregon office. Be involved in projects with our Pacific Civil/Structural Substation team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
  • Work with other engineers, designers, and drafters, and self-perform all aspects of electrical substation structural design, including foundations, structural supports, and control building design.
  • Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results.
  • Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client, code, and WSP requirements.
  • Coordinate with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
  • Assure plans adhere to client and WSP standards.
  • Ensure dimensions, materials, and quality for assigned projects meet the contract requirements.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction phase support.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with other team members.
  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including modifications to existing infrastructure and new design.
  • Highly familiar with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., RISA 3D, RISA Foundation, L-Pile, MathCAD).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior design experience.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
