Job Description

You will support the design and delivery of electrical systems for a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, varying in size and complexity. As a licensed engineer, you will take professional responsibility for assigned deliverables and apply sound engineering judgment in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Your work will include field investigations, electrical system sizing and selection, preparation of calculations and technical documentation, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and support during construction. Projects may involve complex systems typical of water and wastewater facilities and will draw on your established engineering experience in this sector.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals to coordinate and execute the delivery of projects under the direction of project managers and senior engineers.
  • Acts as electrical professional-of-record on projects and/or project components where required and appropriate.
  • Specifies, evaluates, selects and integrates packaged/engineered systems and products into the overall electrical design of a project.
  • Engages in the interdisciplinary development of project designs through use of sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Coordinates the use of Autodesk CAD/BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of electrical systems.
  • Provides guidance, training and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Prepares and revises technical documentation in various phases of design and construction, including drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
  • Participates in project coordination meetings with internal team members, external consultants, owners, contractors, and vendors as required.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Conducts quality assurance through consistent implementation of corporate quality control policies and frameworks.
  • Assists in quality reviews of project deliverables, primarily for junior staff.
  • Assists senior engineers in the development and management of project scope, budgets, and work plans.
  • Works on multiple projects in parallel. May lead electrical discipline team on smaller projects. May lead the electrical discipline on smaller projects or defined project components
  • Conducts and/or oversees field reviews required to assess as-built conditions.
  • Conducts construction phase services, responds to contractor RFIs, reviews shop drawings, and conducts reviews of construction for general conformance with applicable codes and design intent.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Requisite knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply industry standards, electrical codes and building codes in the design and construction of projects.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, means and methods, and applicable industry standards used in water and wastewater facilities.
  • Design experience with low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, motor control centres, standby power systems, grounding, and hazardous area classifications.
  • Ability to produce technical deliverables with accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Willingness to participate and collaborate in a team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate technical ideas to others.
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal and interview skills.
  • Well-versed understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Autodesk products (i.e. AutoCAD), and/or Bentley products (i.e. MicroStation). Familiarity with 3D design workflows using Revit is an asset.
  • Experience with specialized power system software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and/or EasyPower is an asset.
  • Experience or exposure to electrical coordination with PLC/DCS and SCADA systems is an asset.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada. Ability to obtain licensure in other Canadian jurisdictions where required.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Typical office environment, working with computers and drawings for long periods of time.
  • Field work may include exposure to hazards including construction, weather, and industrial operations that may be experienced at water and/or wastewater related facilities.
  • Opportunities for coaching, mentorship, and career advancement within a collaborative, high functioning team.
