Full Job Description
The role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer/Technologist to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will support electrical design for our complex and highly specialized systems, from design drawings through to commissioning on customer sites. With mentorship from senior engineers, you will develop your skills across the full project lifecycle, and your work will help solve some of the toughest environmental challenges facing our planet.

Your main tasks will include:
  • Drafting of electrical design drawings and other documentation including single line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, and other related documentation.
  • Supporting detailed design of 480/600V AC electrical power panels for industrial applications as well as 24V DC industrial PLC control panels.
  • Generating electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) based on detailed specifications of electrical components including electrical enclosures, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, transformers, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, and related field devices and equipment.
  • Generating cable schedules based on equipment location and mechanical installation details.
  • Preparing engineering deliverables that meet project requirements, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices, with review from senior engineers.
  • Helping ensure work packages, installation instructions, and required parts are in place ahead of the build schedule. Resolving build inquiries with a sense of urgency.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain team with procurement of electrical hardware, components, and equipment.
  • Configuring various field devices including instrument transmitters and motor starters and adjusting Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) parameters.
  • Performing pre-commissioning checks on electrical panels, electrical wiring, electrical equipment, and instrumentation including loop checks, insulation testing, etc.
  • Supporting commissioning of industrial control panels with voltages ranging from 24V DC to 600V AC.
  • Red-lining electrical drawings for as-built changes.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement efforts in support of the Electrical Design team's workflows and procedures.
  • Leveraging AI to improve speed and quality of design outputs.

You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in an industrial electrical environment; supporting electrical design, installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial control panels and associated field equipment.
  • Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with common industrial electrical hardware components and comfort navigating the catalog of major manufacturers for parts such as enclosures, disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, etc.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, and cable pull sheets.
  • Basic knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application.
  • The ability to produce electrical schematics in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical (considered an asset).
