Full Job Description
Intermediate Electrical Engineer is a mid-level engineering role based in Calgary, AB, Canada supporting the planning, design, and delivery of electrical systems for transportation infrastructure projects. The position contributes to the development of traffic signal and highway lighting systems and works closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams during design, coordination, and implementation phases.

The role is responsible for preparing engineering drawings, technical specifications, design documentation, and project reports while ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes, municipal requirements, and provincial standards. Responsibilities include technical coordination, design reviews, field inspections, and stakeholder collaboration throughout project delivery.

The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of electrical engineering experience, including exposure to traffic signal and/or highway lighting projects, professional engineering registration, and experience working within regulated infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement electrical systems for transportation infrastructure projects, including traffic signal systems and highway lighting systems.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Perform design reviews to ensure technical accuracy, code compliance, and project requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support the integration of electrical infrastructure within broader project designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineering and design personnel during project execution.
  • Support project coordination activities, including participation in client meetings and technical discussions.
  • Conduct field inspections and site reviews to verify installation quality and compliance with approved designs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, electrical codes, and industry standards throughout project delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation supporting design development, quality assurance, and project approvals.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of departmental standards, templates, and engineering procedures.


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta).Minimum 4+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience designing and managing one or more of the following:
    • Traffic Signal Design
    • Highway Lighting Design
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable municipal, provincial, and industry standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation, specifications, reports, and design deliverables.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience working within infrastructure project environments and engineering project delivery processes.

Assets
  • Registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Experience using AutoCAD and other electrical design software.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient electrical design practices.
  • Familiarity with airport security systems, control systems, and related technologies.
  • Experience supporting quality assurance and engineering standards development.
  • Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience within engineering teams.
