Your Opportunity

The Stantec Ottawa office offers a vibrant and collaborative environment with unparalleled opportunities for professional growth. Our Northern Canada team is seeking an intermediate Civil / Municipal Engineer to support and grow our Nunavut-focused practice, delivering community infrastructure projects across Nunavut communities.

This position is based full-time in Ottawa, with anticipated travel to Nunavut (25%) during the summer construction season (June 1 - October 31, as required) to support field investigations, construction, and community engagement.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, design, and deliver community infrastructure projects in Nunavut, including water and wastewater systems, roads, site development, drainage, and municipal servicing.
  • Support and lead planning, feasibility studies, technical reports, pre-design, detailed design, and contract administration for public and private sector clients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams-including planners, environmental specialists, and other engineers-under the direction of Project Managers.
  • Assist with and lead aspects of project management, including schedules, budgets, resource planning, and coordination of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Participate in community engagement, client meetings, and coordination with territorial and municipal stakeholders.
  • Support construction-phase services, including site visits, field reviews, and contractor coordination during the construction season.
  • Contribute to proposal development, business development activities, and client relationship management in collaboration with Team Leaders and Project Managers.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Working knowledge of municipal infrastructure design, including water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, and site servicing.
  • Familiarity with Canadian design standards and guidelines applicable to northern and remote environments.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Experience working in northern or remote communities, including permafrost considerations, is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • P.Eng. or eligibility for registration with the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG).
  • Approximately 5+ years of related civil/municipal engineering experience, appropriate for an intermediate-level role.

Work Environment

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. This position is based in Ottawa, with travel to Nunavut communities during the construction season as required. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather and remote conditions. Stantec offers flexible and hybrid work options, where feasible.
