Job SummaryBMC2 is a collaborative consortium dedicated to improving the quality of care and outcomes in patients who undergo cardiovascular procedures across the State of Michigan. BMC2 is developing a new heart failure registry, which will take a population health-based approach to measuring outcomes and improving quality of care for patients with heart failure. The new registry will bring together diverse stakeholders including patients, specialists, primary care physicians, and pharmacists. Support for BMC2 is provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network as part of the BCBSM Value Partnerships Program.
Under general supervision, the Applications Programmer Intermediate develops, maintains, and supports database-driven applications, data systems, and reporting solutions that support clinical, research, and operational initiatives. This position is responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, and maintaining software applications while collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
This role will have a primary focus on supporting and enhancing the Heart Failure Registry and related data systems. The Applications Programmer Intermediate will work with clinical and administrative stakeholders to develop applications, reports, workflows, and data integrations that improve data quality, operational efficiency, and regulatory reporting.
The Applications Programmer Intermediate applies established programming principles and best practices to solve technical problems of moderate complexity. The position contributes to application development, database design, data integration, and system maintenance activities while ensuring reliability, performance, and data integrity.
Note: This position does not perform traditional systems analysis functions but works closely with stakeholders and technical teams to implement and support technical solutions.
Responsibilities*- Develop, test, maintain, and support database-driven applications, Airtable solutions, workflow automations, and related services that support registry operations.
- Create, modify, and optimize SQL queries, database objects, and supporting data structures to facilitate reporting, data validation, and operational processes.
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines and automated workflows that ingest, transform, and deliver data between registry systems and supporting applications.
Required Qualifications*- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Significant professional experience in application development with a strong focus on SQL and relational databases
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including query optimization and complex data transformations
- Experience developing applications using PHP and/or Python
Desired Qualifications*- Experience supporting clinical registries, healthcare data systems, or quality improvement initiatives
- Experience working with Heart Failure Registry data or similar cardiovascular registry programs
- Experience developing applications using Python
- Experience with Docker or containerized application environments
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or similar automation platforms
- Experience with ETL/ELT processes and data integration workflows
- Experience developing APIs and system integrations
- Experience building dashboards and reporting solutions
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and regulatory reporting requirements
- Experience supporting production applications with high availability requirements
- Experience working in an academic medical center, healthcare, or research environment
