Job Duties

Provides operational and administrative support to the institution. Coordinates, directs, and manages audit compliance processes. Serves as an Administrative Duty Officer managing all institutional operations on a rotational basis. Writes, manages and oversees policy and procedure development for all functions throughout the institution. Supervises staff and manages the inmate appeal processes, inmate grievance procedure processes, and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Prepares recommendations and management reports for review by various internal and external users.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of corrections and correctional practices, as well as thorough familiarity with Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures. Qualified candidates must have experience providing operational and administrative support within a correctional environment, including coordinating, directing, or managing compliance or audit-related processes. Experience writing, developing, or managing institutional policies, procedures, or formal reports, along with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a correctional setting. Candidates must also have experience overseeing or managing inmate administrative processes such as grievances, appeals, or PREA-related functions and must be able to prepare clear, accurate recommendations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Considerations

Advanced coursework or certifications related to corrections, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field. Experience conducting compliance reviews, audits, or quality assurance activities within a correctional environment is beneficial. Additional supervisory or management experience, especially involving cross-functional teams, is preferred. Candidates with training or certification related to PREA standards, grievance or appeals processes, or policy development may receive further consideration. Experience preparing analytical reports, operational assessments, or recommendations for leadership.
