Job Description
Reporting to the Innovation Manager, the Innovation Consultant is responsible for identifying opportunities, prototyping, piloting, and trialing innovations, and supporting implementation planning to enable transition to operational ownership within Island Health's clinical, operational, and organizational governance frameworks. In addition, this role provides team-based consultation and support services to Island Health staff, physicians, and leaders.
The role operates as a trusted advisor and delivery partner, helping teams navigate complexity, governance pathways, and system interdependence so that innovation can be implemented safely, effectively, and at scale. The role combines design led and agile practices with strong systems and governance fluency to accelerate innovation outcomes and reduce rework.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in Health Informatics, Business Administration, Design, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in innovation consulting, product management, service design, or a related field, including experience delivering innovation initiatives in complex organizational environments.
Skills And Abilities- Demonstrated experience working with innovation methods such as design thinking, agile, and systems approaches.
- Certification or formal training in Project Management, Product Management, Agile/SCRUM, Design Thinking, or related methodologies is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver innovation initiatives in complex, matrixed environments.
- Strong consulting, facilitation, and partner engagement skills.
- Governance fluency, including the ability to understand, navigate, and integrate clinical, operational, and organizational approval pathways into innovation work.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship building skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and systems thinking capabilities.
- Experience working with digital tools, platforms, and modern delivery practices (Jira, Confluence, Teams, Sharepoint, Copilot).
- Ability to coach and support adult learners in innovation, agile, and systems based approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with innovation, healthcare, and technology trends.
