  • Resolve production issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain workflow.
  • Contribute to product design, ensuring manufacturability and aesthetic requirements are met.
  • Perform validation trials and feasibility studies to assess process and material performance.

Job Description:

Position Summary:

Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of Injection Molding and Automated manufacturing operations. Leads design reviews, development and procurement of molding/automation equipment and tooling. Provides direction and development other mold and automation engineers. Some travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue potential enhancements in new or existing molding/automation workcells that would result in cost savings, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvements. Troubleshoot quality and processing concerns on new tooling and equipment, then implement correction action.
  • Reviewing and approving new mold tooling designs with suppliers and providing specifications to suppliers to meet our equipment and manufacturing requirements.
  • Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier location, approving for acceptance and shipping to Cooper. Inspect and verify incoming tooling and equipment to ensure they meet original build specifications.
  • Supports APQP development for new products, completing Claus and Enterproj tasks as assigned by programs. Including development of PFMEAs, Process Flows and BTO Work Instructions.
  • Must actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to product design during the development stage to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principals, customer functional, and aesthetic requirements are considered.
  • Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Leads validation trials, feasibility studies, design tests for performance of processes and materials.
  • Assists with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
  • Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
  • Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supports, contributes, anddemonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
  • Continuously works toward achievinggoals andmeasurables of the facility.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949,including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Required to be on call and responsive to production support needs of the facility
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree inengineering discipline with minimum 4 years directly related experience in an injection molding manufacturing facility or substantial injection molding experience with proven capabilities. Minimum 2 years of experience in Automated work cell environment and mold design review and approvals.
  • Above average mechanical aptitude
  • MS Office Proficient
  • CAD software experience (AutoCAD, Solidworks)
  • Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

Work Environment/Work Conditions:

  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
