Job Duties
Provide professional and quality leadership, guidance and supervisory support to the Health Authorities. Ensures the provision of health care is maintained within state and federal guidelines. Works in collaboration with Statewide Operations to ensure health care is delivered in an effective and timely manner. As a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) Health Services Unit, this position the supports the mission to strive for excellence in healthcare by supporting and promoting the well-being of persons in its custody. The Health Services Unit's primary focus is providing quality healthcare while being good stewards of the Commonwealth's resource. The Statewide Infirmary Nurse Manager provides leadership, guidance, supervisory, clinical and administrative support to the Health Authorities at Infirmary Sites statewide. Ensures the provision of health care is maintained within state and federal guidelines. Conducts periodic reviews of policies and assists in standardizing health care procedures throughout the region, resulting in the overall improvement in health care within the Department of Corrections. Assists in the recruitment and retention of health care personnel. Provides orientation to new Health Authorities. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Health Professions (Virginia Board of Nursing)
Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include 'Continuous Quality Improvement' (CQI), risk management, patient safety and the scope and standards of practice of correctional nursing published by the 'American Nurses Association' (ANA).
Skilled in effective problem solving
Demonstrated ability to review and negotiate improvements in healthcare procedures and ensure excellent customer service is provided
Demonstrated ability to interpret policy
Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments independently
Ability to recognize and promote good working relationships
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Certification in BLS
Experience in supervisory duties including monitoring staff performance, the performance management process, and communicate effectively using dialogic practices
Proficiency in standard computer applications, such as Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, etc.
Additional Considerations
Certification in correctional nursing
Experience in an acute care or correctional setting
