Full Job Description
The Opportunity:

Avantor/NuSil is seeking an Industrial Security Specialist to develop & administer security programs in support of our high-performance silicones business serving the Aerospace & Defense industries.
This position reports to the NuSil Facility Security Officer and will be based out of Carpinteria, California.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (EDUCATION):
  • Bachelor's degree (Criminal Justice, Security Management, Legal Studies, Information Technology, Business Administration) with three years of Industrial Security or related experience. In lieu of a degree, an additional four years of applicable work experience may be substituted.


CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • 3+ years of relevant security experience
  • Must have a working knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).


Additional Qualifications:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Demonstrated understanding of security processes is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Strong interpersonal skills as required to effectively collaborate with customers, suppliers, and fellow associates.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an Active U.S. Government security clearance at the Secret level with a background investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Possess a thorough understanding and working knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), relevant NIST standards for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (NIST SP 800-171/172).
  • Familiarity of DD-254 Implementation Requirements.
  • Proficient with NISS / NCAISS, DISS.
  • Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced and challenging work environment and must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and follow projects through to completion, effectively delivering on day-to-day objectives.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility to deal with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of basic office automation tool suites such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


HOW YOU WILL THRIVE AND CREATE AN IMPACT (MAJOR JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES):

A successful Industrial Security Specialist should have excellent problem-solving abilities and experience with security measures for information security, physical security, and personnel security. A skilled Industrial Security Specialist should be able to identify security risks and implement efficient and effective solutions in collaboration with the Facility Security Officer (FSO) and in alignment with organizational security objectives / requirements
  • Assist the Facility Security Officer (FSO) in the implementation of the company security program, including enforcement of security of policies, procedures, and instructions related to physical security, information security, and personnel security in compliance with federal and defense regulations.
  • Assist in strengthening the company security posture through implementation of operational/tactical security goals established by management; recommend and implement site security improvements.
  • Assist in maintaining the Company FCL and Insider Threat Program in compliance with the NISPOM.
  • Create and update security policies, procedures, and instructions related to the protection of classified information, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and export-controlled information.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors, government agency representatives and prime government contractors.
  • Submit & maintain personnel security (PCL) applications for DoD security clearances.
  • Conduct and track status verification of all employees, consultants, visitors, vendors, etc. with (requested) access to NuSil sites & IT systems.
  • Participate in the development and execution of security education and training programs.
  • Working closely with the FSO, facilitate effective communication and engagement with associates across departments / functions on security-related topics.
  • Manage access control responsibilities including badge system administrations, alarm system administration, visitor policy, and key control.
  • Analyze available security systems data to identify opportunities to increase compliance and security awareness.
  • Assist the FSO in the investigation of security violations and conduct security audits, preparing reports specifying preventive action(s) to be taken.
  • Assist in managing the Material Handling Plan and physical access to controlled areas.
  • Provide guidance on the appropriate classification markings for ITAR, EAR, CUI, FCI, and classified data.
  • Other duties as assigned.
