Full Job Description
Title: Industrial Engineer - Manufacturing Layout & Facility Design
Company: Global Power Components - www.globalpowercomponents.com
Location: Milwaukee, WI (onsite 5-days/week)
Hire Type: Direct Hire

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to design, optimize, and support manufacturing layouts for metal fabrication and assembly operations. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of CAD layout experience and a strong understanding of production flow, equipment placement, material handling, safety, capacity planning, and facility development. This role will support layout planning for lasering, welding, press brake forming, structural beam fabrication, automatic powder coating, large batch paint booth operations, and electrical assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain detailed 2D/3D CAD layouts for manufacturing facilities, equipment, work cells, storage areas, utilities, aisleways, and material flow paths.
• Design efficient layouts for metal fabrication processes including laser cutting, welding, press brake forming, structural beam fabrication, powder coating, paint booth operations, and electrical assembly.
• Evaluate current and future production requirements, equipment specifications, throughput, labor flow, safety clearances, and expansion needs when creating facility layouts.
• Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, safety, quality, vendors, and contractors to support new equipment installations, process changes, and building-development projects.
• Analyze bottlenecks, travel distance, work-in-process flow, staging needs, and ergonomic considerations; recommend improvements that increase efficiency, capacity, safety, and quality.
• Create layout drawings, project scopes, equipment placement plans, and implementation documentation for leadership review and cross-functional execution.
• Support project timelines, cost estimates, construction coordination, utility planning, code/safety reviews, and commissioning of new or modified production spaces.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related technical field.
• 5-8 years of CAD layout experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment; experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or comparable design software preferred.
• Hands-on knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including lasering, welding, press brake forming, structural steel/beam handling, powder coating, paint systems, and assembly operations.
• Ability to interpret equipment drawings, building plans, utility requirements, safety standards, and workflow requirements to create practical, buildable layouts.
• Strong project-management, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience supporting new building development, plant expansions, equipment moves, greenfield or brownfield manufacturing layouts, and contractor/vendor coordination.
• Background in structural design, structural steel layout, building infrastructure planning, crane/hoist rigging, heavy-material movement, or facility utility coordination.
• Lean manufacturing, value-stream mapping, capacity planning, safety/ergonomic analysis, or continuous-improvement experience.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
A practical, detail-oriented engineer who can translate production needs into safe, efficient, and scalable facility layouts. The right candidate is equally comfortable working in CAD, walking the shop floor, coordinating with trades and vendors, and presenting clear layout recommendations to leadership.
