Canfor is seeking a motivated and experienced Industrial Energy Manager to lead Strategic Energy Management initiatives for Canadian Solid Wood Operations.

The Energy Manager has the responsibility of evolving and implementing our Strategic Energy Management Plan for the Canadian Solid Wood Operations and Canfor. This is an established role and is a partnership with BC Hydro, with a performance contract that would report into the CAPEX group. It offer the candidate room to grow within Canfor and provides excellent exposure to many different areas of the business.

This role can be based out of our CAC office in Prince George, our Cranbrook office, or any location where we have an operating facility in BC or Alberta.

A day in the life of the Industrial Energy Manager includes:
  • Coordinating facility energy audits and benchmarking as needed
  • Scope and track CAPEX projects
  • Tracking and reporting on energy usage for monthly KPI reports
  • Identifying and evaluating energy conservation initiatives
  • Setting achievable targets for energy management programs
  • Implementing energy cost-saving projects
  • Liaising with BC Hydro and FortisBC on programs and incentives
  • Representing Canfor at BC Hydro/Fortis industry Group meetings
  • Ensuring BC Hydro Performance contract deliverables are met
  • Advancing sustainability initiatives across divisions
  • Supporting annual roadmaps with BC divisions
  • Collaborating with energy management colleagues in Alberta and our Canfor Southern Pine operations
  • Supporting annual GHG reporting and disclosures
  • Traveling regularly to our operating facilities across BC and Alberta


For this role, you'll come equipped with:
  • Registered professional Engineer (P.Eng) or EIT with relevant experience, Certified Energy Manager, or Master's degree, or combination of training (electrician, power engineer, mechanical technologist)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant technical experience
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and Power BI
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and report writing skills
  • Project management experience


Preference will be given to candidates with some of the following experience:
  • Energy efficiency and demand-side management programs
  • Wood products or industrial operations experience
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies
  • Experience with government/utility funding programs
  • Financial analysis capability

The salary range for this position is: $90,300.00-$129,000.00
