Organizational context and job purposePurpose of the job:
The IEA Reliability Superintendent position leads the site’s IEA Reliability organization and is accountable for the development and execution of reliability strategies, programs, and improvement initiatives that ensure safe, reliable, and effective operation of Instrument, Electrical, Analyzer, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Electrical Distribution System (EDS) assets.
This role provides governance of engineering design standards, technical specifications, maintenance and inspection procedures, and Mechanical Integrity programs for Instrument, Electrical, Analyzer, SIS, and EDS assets, ensuring compliance with internal, regulatory, and industry requirements.
The position is accountable for the stewardship of the site's Instrument, Electrical, Analyzer, SIS, and EDS reliability programs and provides technical and organizational leadership for reliability improvement initiatives, Management of Change (MOC) activities, maintenance-led projects, and support of the site capital portfolio.
This position interacts closely with Operations, Maintenance, Technology, Project Engineering, Inspection, contractors, and external technical experts to improve asset performance and deliver business objectives. The position requires the ability to lead and develop a team of technical professionals while managing competing priorities in support of site safety, reliability, and business goals. The IEA Reliability Superintendent reports to the BMC Maintenance and Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities- The position is accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.
- Develop and execute the overall IEA reliability strategy for BMC, utilizing RCFAs, FMEAs, and reliability improvement programs to improve asset performance.
- Establish, monitor, and communicate reliability performance metrics and KPIs while driving initiatives that improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance maintenance effectiveness.
- Provide overall stewardship of the site EDS reliability program, including asset strategies, inspection and testing requirements, electrical system studies, reliability improvements, and long-range infrastructure planning.
- Own and maintain the site electrical system model and ensure completion of required electrical system studies, including arc flash, protective device coordination, short circuit, and load flow analyses.
- Accountable for the site's SIS reliability program, including lifecycle management, performance monitoring, proof test strategy, management of bypasses, and compliance with applicable regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Accountable for the development, approval, implementation, and periodic review of Instrument, Electrical, Analyzer, and SIS Design Standards, technical standards, specifications, and site procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and support to address equipment performance issues, complex troubleshooting efforts, and reliability related operational challenges.
- Lead and/or Serve on RCFA investigation teams, ensure training and deployment of instrument/electrical engineering resources to support RCFAs for operational or other plant incidents.
- Ensure appropriate IEA Reliability support for turnaround planning and execution, major maintenance activities, and capital project development, design reviews, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Collaborate with the Technology Manager and Capital Engineering organizations to align the site capital portfolio with reliability and business objectives. Accountable for maintenance-led project execution and technical leadership throughout project development, design, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Provide oversight and governance of MOC activities affecting Instrument, Electrical, Analyzer, SIS, and EDS assets. Serve as Change Manager for Electrical Reliability MOCs.
- Accountable for the development, succession planning, performance management, and capability growth of the IEA Reliability organization, including engineers, specialists, technicians, and team leaders.
- Provide leadership and alignment across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Inspection organizations to achieve reliability, safety, and business objectives.
- Ensure the site Reliability Improvement Teams are functional with Operations, identifying major detractors from downtime of equipment and completing measurable improvement action plans.
- Works a flexible work schedule (9/80 red or blue) in alignment with other leaders
Skills & Competencies and experienceEducation and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 10-15 years’ experience in electrical engineering positions with progressive technical responsibility and accomplishment
- Demonstrated leadership and development of reliability programs and best practices
- Formal experience as a supervisor is preferred
- Use of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology is preferred
