Summary

The Hydraulic Foreman for Equipment Technicians serves as the senior field technical expert for the inspection, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of aerial devices, hydraulic systems, and associated utility fleet equipment. This position provides advanced technical leadership, supports operational readiness, drives safety and quality standards, and serves as the primary liaison between mechanics, vendors, and fleet leadership.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Advanced Technical & Field Support
  • Performs advanced diagnostics, field inspections, and repairs on aerial devices and hydraulic systems.
  • Assists mechanics with troubleshooting and complex repair tasks.
  • Responds to field service calls and provides on-site technical support.
  • Conducts operational and safety inspections to ensure equipment reliability, compliance, and readiness for service.
  • Identifies recurring failure trends and recommends corrective actions or long-term solutions to improve fleet reliability and performance.

Leadership & Workflow Coordination
  • Assists the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in coordinating daily workflow, assigning priorities, and supporting efficient execution of maintenance activities.
  • Provides technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to mechanics and less experienced technicians.
  • Ensures mechanics have the necessary tools, equipment, technical information, and materials to safely and effectively complete assigned work.
  • Monitors repair progress, communicates status updates, and escalates operational concerns or resource constraints to leadership as needed.
  • Supports scheduling coordination, training efforts, and workforce coverage planning to maintain operational continuity.
  • Helps foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Vendor Management & Operational Support
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for manufacturers, vendors, and service providers regarding technical support, warranty matters, and repair coordination.
  • Drives vendor performance and accountability to ensure quality workmanship, responsiveness, and resolution of issues.
  • Reviews and approves parts purchases through established procurement and ordering processes.

Documentation, Compliance & Safety
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of repairs, inspections, diagnostics, and maintenance activities within Fleet Maximo and other fleet systems.
  • Ensures work activities comply with Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), manufacturer, and company safety standards and procedures.
  • Reinforces safe work practices through active participation in safety meetings, field audits, and operational reviews.
  • Assists in identifying safety risks, compliance concerns, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Supports audit readiness and promotes adherence to fleet maintenance standards and regulatory requirements.

Customer and Stakeholder Support
  • Provides professional and timely communication with internal customers and equipment users regarding repair status, equipment concerns, and operational impacts.
  • Ensures completed repairs meet operational, safety, and quality expectations.
  • Escalates customer concerns or operational issues requiring leadership involvement.
  • Delivers presentations and in-person updates related to fleet policies, procedures, safety initiatives, and operational processes as needed.
  • Assists with asset allocation.
  • Coordinates and approves schedules based on time off requests and coverage.
  • Schedules trainings.

Skills
  • Strong communication skills for working with mechanics, users, and vendors.
  • Ability to follow established repair procedures and escalate issues requiring Supervisor decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Ability to effectively practice interpersonal, collaboration, delegation, and customer service skills .

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants with an Associate degree, Technical degree, or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
  • 7-8 years of experience in hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair or other relatable experience is required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of high-pressure hydraulic systems and aerial device components.
  • Applicants that are proficienct with Microsoft Office Suite and have Fleet Maximo experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with DOT, OSHA, ANSI, and other related compliance standards and procedures.
