The HVAC Superintendent is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing all HVAC construction activities on assigned projects. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards and customer expectations.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management- Lead, mentor, and supervise HVAC foremen, field personnel, and subcontractors.
- Conduct employee training, coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Assign manpower and resources to maximize productivity and project efficiency.
- Communicate project goals, expectations, and safety requirements to field teams.
Project Execution- Plan and coordinate all HVAC installation activities from project start through completion.
- Review project drawings, specifications, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and adjust resources as necessary to maintain schedules.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts, design issues, and construction challenges.
- Coordinate installation of ductwork, equipment, controls, piping, and startup activities.
Quality Control- Conduct inspections throughout all phases of construction.
- Ensure work complies with project specifications, company standards, manufacturer requirements, and applicable mechanical codes.
- Verify proper installation, testing, balancing, and commissioning of HVAC systems.
- Maintain high levels of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Safety & Compliance- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on every jobsite.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and local building and mechanical codes.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and meetings.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and productive work environment.
Financial & Operational Management- Assist in managing project profitability and labor productivity.
- Evaluate and implement change orders when necessary.
- Coordinate material procurement, equipment deliveries, and supply management.
- Work closely with project managers, vendors, and general contractors to maintain project schedules and resolve operational issues.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience supervising commercial or multi-family HVAC construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, equipment installation, controls, and construction practices.
- Proven leadership experience managing field crews and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and mechanical plans.
- Working knowledge of local mechanical codes, energy codes, and applicable building regulations.
- Experience coordinating equipment startup, testing, balancing, and commissioning is preferred.
