Full Job Description
Summary:
This position is a professional-level, exempt, full-time, regular position reporting to the Human Resources Director. The individual will manage Human Resources functions, including, but not limited to: recruitment, benefits administration, employee relations, retention, compensation, credentialing, new-hire orientation, training, and job development. The position supervises the HR staff.

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Responds to inquiries regarding policies and procedures and provides training as requested by the Human Resources Director.
  2. Research and provide recommendations regarding employment law as requested.
  3. Ensures employee participation in benefits plans as applicable and keeps records of participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, terminations, and employee statistics for organizational and government reporting.
  4. Coordinates management training regarding interview processes, hiring, terminations, promotions, safety, and sexual harassment.
  5. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for the applicable agency as necessary.
  6. Ensures HR staff credential and privilege hires as required.
  7. Provide oversight for the Recruiter with recruitment, processing of all applications, including correspondence.
  8. Ensures HRIS Coordinator maintains an effective and professional filing system.
  9. Develop new hire and benefits packets for the HR Generalist to maintain.
  10. Develop and oversee HR staff with the New Hire Orientation process.
  11. Create all personnel file patterns, including active personnel files, terminated personnel files, confidential files, I-9 files, and student/volunteer/contractor files, and oversee HR staff for maintaining accurate files.
  12. Assists the Human Resources Director with employee questions or issues regarding HR policies and procedures.
  13. Responsible for code creation and initiating data program changes with the HRIS system for HR staff to perform data entry.
  14. Communicates with finance to ensure database information is accurate.
  15. Monitors and administers Family Medical Leave, Worker's Compensation, and unemployment programs.
  16. Oversees the termination process of employees, including separation information and the required documents for COBRA-eligible employees.
  17. Executes special assignments and tasks assigned by the Human Resources Director.
  18. Research and respond to correspondence from state and federal officials or private companies in order to verify the employment history of past and present employees.
  19. Develops and oversees the maintenance of an up-to-date organizational chart as required.
  20. Maintain and update all organizational forms.
  21. Customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment required to complete assignments.
  22. Conforms to safety policies and general housekeeping practices.
  23. Demonstrates sound work ethics, flexible, and shows dedication to the position.
  24. Demonstrates a positive attitude, is respectful, and possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity toward clients and co-workers.
  25. Keeps customer service and the mission of the organization in mind when interacting with all clients, co-workers, and others.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Human Resources, Business, Law, or related field.
  • Four years of professional-level work experience in Human Resources as a Manager or Senior Generalist, ideally within the non-profit sector.
  • A combination of related work experience and education demonstrating the ability to fulfill the functions of the position may qualify in lieu of a degree.
  • PHR and credentialing certifications a plus
  • Computer Skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HRIS.

Hours of Work:
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. Chugachmiut maintains a drug and alcohol-free and/non-smoking work environment.
