Peckham, Inc. - HR Total Rewards LeaderPosition Summary
The Total Rewards leader serves as a strategic partner responsible for designing, implementing, and administering compensation, benefits, retirement, and recognition programs that support Peckham's mission, workforce strategy, and organizational objectives. This role helps ensure Peckham attracts, retains, and engages talent through competitive, equitable, and sustainable Total Rewards programs while balancing employee experience, market competitiveness, and fiscal responsibility.
Working closely with Human Resources, Finance, Talent Development, and operational leaders, this position provides expertise, analysis, and recommendations related to compensation, benefits, retirement programs, workforce planning, and Total Rewards strategy. The role leverages data and market insights to drive informed decision-making, ensure compliance, and enhance the overall employee value proposition.
As the role progresses through the career levels, responsibility expands from operational management and program administration to enterprise-wide strategy development, executive consultation, organizational influence, and leadership of the Total Rewards function.
Position Level
This position is part of Peckham's career framework and may be filled at either the Total Rewards Manager (PL3) or Director of Total Rewards (PL4) level. The selected candidate's placement will be determined based on their education, experience, leadership background, demonstrated competencies, and ability to perform the scope and complexity of work associated with each level.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Total Rewards Manager (PL3)Compensation & Market Analysis
- Develop and administer compensation programs, salary structures, and pay practices in alignment with organizational guidelines.
- Conduct market pricing, compensation benchmarking, and analysis to support hiring, promotions, retention, and organizational changes.
- Evaluate internal equity and provide recommendations to support fair and consistent compensation decisions.
- Assist in annual compensation planning processes, salary budget development, and market adjustment reviews.
- Maintain compensation data, reports, and analytics to support business decision-making.
Benefits & Retirement Administration
- Lead the administration and evaluation of employee benefits and retirement programs.
- Partner with brokers, consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
- Analyze benefit utilization, costs, and participation trends and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with annual open enrollment, benefits communications, and employee education initiatives.
- Support retirement plan administration and employee engagement efforts.
Partnership & Consultation
- Partner with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and leaders to provide Total Rewards guidance and support.
- Respond to compensation and benefits inquiries while ensuring alignment with policies and practices.
- Assist leaders in understanding compensation philosophy and organizational programs.
Analytics & Compliance
- Develop reports, dashboards, and analyses related to compensation, benefits, and workforce trends.
- Ensure programs comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
- Support audits, reporting requirements, and documentation efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and employee experience.
Leadership
- May provide guidance, coaching, or project leadership to staff and cross-functional partners.
- Support departmental initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Director of Total Rewards (PL4)Strategic Total Rewards Leadership
- Develop and execute the organization's Total Rewards strategy in alignment with organizational priorities, workforce needs, and long-term business objectives.
- Establish and maintain the organization's compensation philosophy and overall Total Rewards framework.
- Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on compensation, benefits, retirement, recognition, and emerging market practices.
- Advise executive leadership on workforce and Total Rewards strategies that support talent attraction, retention, engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
- Ensure Total Rewards programs reflect Peckham's mission, values, and commitment to inclusion.
Compensation Strategy
- Lead the design, implementation, and governance of compensation structures, salary administration practices, and pay programs.
- Oversee market pricing methodology, compensation benchmarking, and pay equity analyses.
- Develop enterprise-wide recommendations regarding compensation strategy, pay investments, and market adjustments.
- Partner with Talent Development to align compensation programs with career architecture, talent strategies, and workforce planning efforts.
Benefits & Retirement Strategy
- Lead the strategic direction of benefit and retirement programs.
- Evaluate market trends, employee needs, utilization data, and organizational objectives to inform program design and enhancements.
- Direct relationships with brokers, consultants, retirement providers, and key external partners.
- Oversee annual benefit renewals, vendor strategy, and long-term program planning.
Organizational Influence & Financial Stewardship
- Partner with Finance and senior leadership on compensation budgeting, forecasting, and workforce cost planning.
- Evaluate Total Rewards investments and identify opportunities to improve value, effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Develop and present executive-level analyses, recommendations, and business cases related to compensation and benefits strategies.
- Present recommendations to executive leadership and Board committees as appropriate.
Leadership & Functional Excellence
- Lead, coach, and develop Total Rewards staff.
- Establish department priorities, performance expectations, and strategic objectives.
- Drive innovation, process improvement, and operational excellence across the Total Rewards function.
- Build strong partnerships across Human Resources, Finance, and operational leadership teams.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure enterprise-wide compliance with compensation, benefits, retirement, and pay equity regulations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and recommend appropriate organizational responses.
- Oversee audits, reporting requirements, policy development, and risk mitigation activities.
Qualifications
Total Rewards Manager (PL3)
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in compensation, benefits, Human Resources, or Total Rewards.
- Experience conducting compensation analyses and market pricing.
- Experience supporting benefits and retirement programs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Experience developing reports and utilizing workforce data to support decision-making.
Preferred
- CCP, CEBS, SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar certification.
- Experience with compensation survey tools and market pricing resources.
- Experience in nonprofit, manufacturing, vocational rehabilitation, or government contracting environments.
Director of Total Rewards (PL4)
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
- Six (6) or more years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, or Total Rewards.
- Three (3) or more years of leadership experience.
- Experience designing compensation structures and compensation strategies.
- Experience managing employee benefit and retirement programs.
- Experience presenting recommendations to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
- Strong financial, business, and analytical acumen.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- CCP, CEBS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certification.
- Experience leading Total Rewards strategy within complex organizations.
- Experience utilizing market pricing and compensation benchmarking resources.
- Experience in nonprofit, manufacturing, vocational rehabilitation, or government contracting environments.
Physical Demands: Office and Administrative Support
The general nature of this position operates in a professional office environment. The environment has standard office lighting, temperature, and noise levels. The role involves prolonged periods working on a computer and engaging in virtual or in-person meetings. Additionally, it also requires the ability to sit for extended periods, use standard office equipment, and perform repetitive tasks such as typing and data entry. The role may involve light lifting (up to 20 pounds) and occasional standing or walking.
