Full Job Description
HR & Payroll Manager

Pay: $80,000 - $85,000 per year
Work Location: Houston, TX | In Person

We are seeking an experienced HR & Payroll Manager to join our Human Resources team. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility across payroll, benefits, employee relations, recruiting, performance management, HRIS administration, and HR compliance.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded HR professional who is comfortable handling sensitive employee matters, partnering with managers and leadership, and ensuring HR processes are accurate, consistent, and compliant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and guide payroll and benefits functions, partnering with payroll and benefits team members to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Review and approve employee pay increases, promotions, demotions, and other compensation adjustments.
  • Lead employee relations matters, including coaching managers on corrective actions, reviewing disciplinary documentation, and conducting or advising on terminations and exit interviews.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for sensitive employee concerns and workplace conflicts.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, company policies, and documentation standards.
  • Partner with hiring managers throughout the recruiting process, including candidate screening, interview coordination, offer approvals, and other hiring needs.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth and consistent employee experience.
  • Support performance management initiatives, including performance reviews, performance improvement plans, coaching, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Assist with the development and refinement of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintain and audit employee information within the HRIS to ensure records are accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Support payroll-related processes and assist with resolving employee and manager questions regarding pay and payroll matters.
  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic HR initiatives, employee retention efforts, and cross-functional projects.
  • Participate in special projects and other HR initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including hands-on exposure to payroll, benefits, and employee relations.
  • Previous experience in a lead, supervisory, or HR management capacity strongly preferred.
  • Paycom experience strongly preferred, including experience with payroll, employee records, onboarding, reporting, and HRIS functions.
  • Experience within multifamily property management, property management, real estate, or a similar multi-location industry highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting a multi-site or geographically dispersed workforce is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws, compensation practices, employee relations, payroll, benefits, and general HR processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential and sensitive employee matters.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fully in-office environment.
