Position SummaryThe Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is seeking a strategic and experienced
HR Manager, Global Benefits and Employee Relations to serve as the organization's subject matter expert (SME) for Total Rewards, employee benefits, retirement programs, compensation benchmarking, leave administration, and employee relations.
Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, this role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the organization's Total Rewards programs, including health and welfare benefits, the 401(k) retirement plan, leave management, and employee relations. As a trusted advisor and HR business partner, you will partner with leaders across the organization to ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen the employee experience, mitigate organizational risk, and continuously enhance HR programs, policies, and practices.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned Human Resources professional with deep expertise in Total Rewards, benefits strategy, retirement plan governance, leave management, employee relations, employment law, compliance, vendor management, and broader HR operations.

What You'll DoBenefits, Retirement & Total Rewards- Serve as the organization's subject matter expert for all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, wellness, voluntary benefits, and the 401(k) retirement savings plan.
- Lead the strategy, administration, governance, annual renewals, open enrollment, employee communications, and continuous improvement of the organization's Total Rewards programs.
- Support the organization's Total Rewards strategy by participating in compensation benchmarking initiatives, analyzing market trends, and partnering with the Chief People Officer to help ensure competitive and equitable compensation and benefits programs.
- Manage relationships with brokers, retirement plan advisors, recordkeepers, payroll providers, and benefit vendors to ensure exceptional service, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Oversee the administration and governance of the 401(k) plan, including eligibility, employee education, compliance, audits, nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 support, and fiduciary best practices, in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate market trends, benchmark benefit offerings, and recommend enhancements that support employee well-being, engagement, retention, and organizational objectives.
Leave Management- Oversee all employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, paid leave, workers' compensation coordination, and applicable federal, state, and company leave policies.
- Serve as the primary HR resource for managers and employees on complex leave matters while partnering with third-party administrators to ensure consistent, compliant, and employee-focused administration.
Employee Relations- Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders by providing expert guidance on employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, corrective action, organizational change, and workplace concerns.
- Lead sensitive workplace investigations, resolve complex employee relations issues, identify organizational trends, and recommend proactive solutions that foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
- Coach managers and leaders on performance conversations, documentation, employee development, and sound people-management practices while minimizing organizational risk and ensuring consistent policy application.
Compliance, HR Operations & Continuous Improvement- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, retirement plan regulations, and all applicable federal and state employment laws.
- Monitor changes in employment laws and regulatory requirements, recommending policy and process updates to ensure ongoing organizational compliance.
- Develop, review, and enhance HR policies, procedures, employee communications, and operational processes that strengthen compliance, improve efficiencies, and support an exceptional employee experience.
- Analyze HR metrics, benefits utilization, leave trends, employee relations data, and vendor performance to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Leverage HR technology, reporting tools, and automation to improve service delivery, compliance, reporting, and data-driven decision-making.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant expertise in employee benefits, 401(k) retirement plan administration, leave management, employee relations.
- Demonstrated experience managing Total Rewards programs, including health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, open enrollment, vendor management, employee communications, and experience supporting compensation benchmarking and market analysis.
- Experience administering 401(k) retirement plans, including governance, vendor management, audits, regulatory compliance, and employee education.
- Extensive experience conducting workplace investigations, coaching leaders, resolving complex employee relations matters, and interpreting employment policies.
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, retirement plan administration, fiduciary responsibilities, and applicable employment laws.
- Experience supporting a multi-state workforce.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms, benefits administration systems, Microsoft 365, and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, CEBS, or other HR or employee benefits certifications.
- Experience supporting international employees, global benefits programs, or employer-of-record (EOR) arrangements.
- Experience working within a nonprofit, association, professional services, or global organization.
- Experience leading Total Rewards initiatives, supporting compensation benchmarking activities, vendor negotiations, HR technology implementations, and continuous process improvements.
