Overview
Hampton Lumber is seeking a people-focused HR Manager to provide both strategic and hands-on HR leadership in a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle—including recruiting, development, retention, and compliance—while helping maintain a workforce that drives our competitive advantage.
The HR Manager serves as a trusted partner to the Leadership Team, providing consistent guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. This position requires a strong presence in the mill, supporting employees and supervisors while fostering a positive, high-performing workplace culture.

Responsibilities
Recruitment & Hiring
- Lead and execute recruiting strategies to attract top talent.
- Partner with supervisors to build strong candidate pipelines and guide hiring decisions.
- Develop creative, community-based recruiting efforts to position Hampton as an employer of choice.
- Manage job postings, track hiring metrics, and recruiting systems (iCIMS)
Onboarding & Retention
- Design and facilitate effective onboarding and orientation programs.
- Ensure new hires feel welcomed, prepared, and connected to Hampton’s culture.
- Promote employee engagement and retention initiatives across the site.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide insights to improve retention strategies.
Employee Relations & Leadership Support
- Serve as a trusted, neutral resource—coach, counselor, and advisor to employees and supervisors.
- Partner with leadership to address performance issues, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
- Guide and support consistent application of policies, discipline, and performance management practices.
Training & Development
- Coordinate and track employee training and development programs.
- Identify skill gaps and partner with corporate HR to enhance training offerings.
- Support leadership development and career growth initiatives.
- Partner with leadership to coach employees and support performance management.
- Support communication efforts including bulletin boards and site updates
Safety & Compliance
- Partner with safety teams to promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (FMLA, PFML, EEO).
- Manage OSHA logs, incident reporting, and workers’ compensation claims.
- Administer drug testing, background checks, and protected leave programs.
Payroll, Benefits & Administration
- Support payroll changes and employee benefits administration in partnership with corporate teams.
- Assist with open enrollment, leave management, and employee benefit inquiries.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
Culture & Engagement
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Support employee recognition programs and engagement initiatives.
- Maintain visibility in the plant and build strong relationships across all levels.
Leadership & Operations Support
- Actively participate in plant leadership meetings and safety/PAC committees.
- Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support continuous improvement and EOC initiatives that impact team building, safety, quality, and productivity.
- Contribute to internal communications such as bulletin boards and site updates.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in HR, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
- Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, and training programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust at all levels.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
- Willingness and ability to spend significant time on the plant floor engaging with employees.
Preferred Skills
- Strong conflict resolution and coaching abilities.
- Ability to influence and provide candid feedback while maintaining strong relationships.
- Experience with change management and leading policy or process improvements.
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (e.g., iCIMS) and training management systems.
- Experience leveraging technology (Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, or AI tools) to improve HR processes.
Additional Information
- Occasional travel to other Hampton facilities or corporate offices may be required.
