Akicita Federal is hiring a Hospitalist/Nocturnist to deliver high-quality inpatient medical care for the Indian Health Service at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Chinle, AZ. This role places you at the heart of a tribal community health mission, providing direct patient care to an underserved population in the Navajo Nation. You'll work as part of a dedicated clinical team committed to improving health outcomes for patients who depend on this facility as their primary source of hospital-level care.
- Provide comprehensive inpatient medical care, including admissions, daily rounds, and discharge planning for hospitalized patients
- Diagnose and manage a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions presenting in an inpatient setting
- Coordinate care with specialist consultants, nursing staff, and ancillary healthcare teams to ensure safe and effective patient transitions
- Respond to rapid-response and code events, providing stabilization and emergency management as needed during assigned shifts
- Procedures: Prefer LP, paracentesis, thoracentesis, central lines
- Procedure backup: Surgery and ER available 24/7. Anesthesia performs intubations and is back up for LP's. RT available for ventilated patients 24/7
- Open ICU - 4 beds
- Schedule: 7am to 7am or 7pm to 7am
- Average daily patient census during day: 8-10
- Average number of admissions at night: 3 Typical range 0-6.
- On-site: Behavioral Health, Dental, Emergency, Surgery
- Referred: Dermatology, Endocrinology, Podiatry, Urology
- Shifts: 7a-7p; 7p-7a
$457,600 - $457,600 a year
- Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine (MD or DO) in the United States
- Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or a related hospitalist-appropriate specialty
- DEA, BLS, ACLS
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience providing care in Indian Health Service, tribal, or Federally Qualified Health Center settings
- Familiarity with the health challenges and cultural context of Native American or rural/frontier patient populations
- Experience working in critical-access or resource-limited hospital environments
- Comfort with a broad scope of inpatient medicine, including patients with complex, multi-system disease presentations
- Prior nocturnist experience or demonstrated comfort with independent overnight clinical decision-making
