Full Job Description
SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the daily implementation and management of activities regarding component manufacturing, product management and blood distribution, staffing and equipment allocation, and immunohematology reference laboratory functions within the Central Region.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides day-to-day management by implementing decision-making duties for activities and tasks associated with the functional business units assigned to this region while adhering to cost-effective and efficient guidelines with a focus on quality and customer service outcomes in the following areas:
    • Blood manufacturing, product management, and product distribution.
      • Immunohematology reference laboratory (IRL) testing program.
      • Serves as signatory to verify educational credentials of candidates.
      • Under the direction of the laboratory director (medical director) and supervision of the technical supervisor (medical director), provides supervision of testing personnel and reporting of test results. (CFR [redacted])
      • Responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results. (CFR [redacted])
  • Supports the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, quality assurance, and improvement programs.
  • Uses data to disseminate/interpret information, manage schedules, maintain expertise, provide advice, and deliver presentations.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and manages financial resources. Accountable to ensure budget and financial objectives are met.
  • Monitors operations to ensure a high quality of customer service and donor loyalty; resolve problems; and evaluate productivity goal attainment.
  • Supports the development of procedures, quality improvement initiatives/controls that assess staff skills to ensure achievement of component manufacturing, product management, distribution, and IRL testing strategies.
  • Authority to recommend personnel decisions such as hiring, promotion, performance evaluation, coaching, disciplinary action, and terminations.
  • Provides direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt team members (i.e., hire, orient, train, mentor, and evaluate assigned team members); assesses skills, identifies shortfalls, or develops training needs.
  • Implements, assesses, and provides guidance and feedback regarding performance standards of activities related to manufacturing and product distribution, IRL services, equipment/supplies, and team member efficiency.
  • Responsible for development of leaders throughout the organization by being a role model of high-level leadership behaviors, through the implementation of leadership development opportunities, and recurring one-on-one meetings.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend accessibility by phone or email.
  • Maintains confidentiality of LifeServe Blood Center donors, team members, financial/proprietary records, and other information at all times.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Central region:
  • Hospital Services Supervisor I or II
  • Hospital Services Testing Supervisor
  • Hospital Services Support Services Coordinator

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Current driver's license and motor vehicle report meeting insurability requirements preferred.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, etc.) and a willingness to engage in learning other software.
  • Working knowledge and experience working on a computer system required.
  • Medical Technology (MT) or Medical Laboratory Specialist (MLS) certification required.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of transfusion service and high complexity testing experience required; blood banking experience preferred.
