Full Job Description
The Hospital Medical Director for the South Health Campus is a key role within the Calgary Corridor and Alberta Health Services. The Hospital Medical Director will provide medical leadership for site issues that reach/cross all clinical Departments within the site (Safety, Quality, Capital Planning, Capacity and Budgets). In this role the incumbent will work closely with the respective site Senior Operating Officer, Corridor Clinical Department Leads, Site Leads, Associate Corridor Medical Lead and the Calgary Corridor Medical Affairs administrative team to facilitate effective delivery of health services within the site and across the continuum of care ensuring the efficient utilization of AHS resources.

Roles & Responsibilities
  1. Provide medical support and leadership for the site. The Hospital Medical Director will work collaboratively with the administrative leads on issues related to resource allocation at the site including development of and management of budgets for the site consistent with the health care priorities as established by AHS.
  2. Provide leadership with the Corridor's administration pertaining to the activities of the site and will be actively involved in the decision-making process with regards to resource allocation, service distribution, technology assessment, and patient care related policies and procedures.
  3. The incumbent will work closely with the site Senior Operating Officer (SOO), managing and leading clinical and operational issues that reach/cross all departments such as safety, quality, program planning, equipment and capital planning, and patient flow and capacity. The Hospital Medical Director will have direct involvement in site operation meetings with the SOO and Executive Directors at the site.
  4. Liaise with and support the Corridor Clinical Department Leads and, where appropriate, the Corridor Clinical Department Site Leads. The Hospital Medical Director will work to ensure appropriate medical input from sectional, departmental and program leads with regards to operational decisions.
  5. Establish a system to recognize and investigate complaints made against or disputes between Department Members as described in the Medical Staff Bylaws and/or in accordance with applicable AHS and Departmental policies for review and disposition by the Corridor Medical Lead.
  6. Problem solving of health services delivery issues with operational leads, site Leads, Section Leads and Corridor Clinical Department Leads.
  7. To be responsible for some of the assigned Corridor Medical Leaders and Program Medical Directors with the Corridor (TBD).
  8. As required assist in representing the Corridor at appropriate AHS provincial committees and venues.

  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, change management, team building and facilitation skills.
  • Expertise in developing and providing resources, consultation, and collaborative support to stakeholder teams.
  • Ability to design, tailor, implement and evaluate effective strategies to meet identified priorities.
  • Experience in supporting and promoting clinical best practice and experience as a change agent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate positive relationships and passion for patient safety.
  • Alberta Health Services privileges to practice at AHS facilities.
