About the Position:

This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)).

This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy.

Duties

Help

• Serve as an expert analyst responsible for developing Department of War (DoW) policy and programs supporting homeschooling for military-connected families.
• Advise senior DoW leadership on the strategy to sustain and mature homeschool and education-related support programs.
• Negotiate cross-agency and inter-service collaboration agreements to standardize homeschool support across all installations worldwide.
• Establishe the Department's research agenda for military-connected homeschooling.
• Set the strategic direction for the Department's homeschool communication and training architecture.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for Homeschool Policy Analyst:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating complex K-12 and homeschooling educational programs, analyzing program data to brief senior leadership on operational efficacy, reviewing educational programs and policies to make recommendations for senior leadership, formulating strategic recommendations on policies, directives, and/or guidance for education programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements, and translating complex regulations and/or procedures related to education or family support programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Specialized Experience GS-14: One year of specialized experience which includes providing recommendations on complex issues related to homeschooling or K-12 education programs, evaluating educational programs and policies to make recommendations for senior leadership, developing policies, directives, and/or guidance for education programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements, and developing training materials for various audiences to explain policies and/or procedures related to education or family support programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement GS-13: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement GS-14: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Education
