Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and Histotechnology Supervisor, prepares microscopic slides of tissues for examination by the pathologist.
Core Job Responsibilities- Performs assigned technical duties such as logging in specimens, changing solutions, instrumentation checks, accurate labeling, filing, changing of reagents/solutions and proper storing and disposing of specimens.
- Provides assistance to pathologist in cutting of tissue sections and surgical/autopsy specimens for analysis.
- Assist with preparing slides/specimens/blocks for send outs that are requested by the pathologist for consultation or request from an outside facility for review.
- Maintains open communication with the Histology Supervisor, Pathologist and Laboratory management. Identifies any unusual patient data and/results and brings to the appropriate Pathologist attention.
- Maintains awareness of MVHS policies and procedures relevant to the position and any changes that may occur.
- Participates in continuous learning opportunities such as seminars, trainings, workshops, obtaining at least the minimum required amount of continuing education hours required per regulatory requirements per year.
Education/Experience RequirementsRequired: - Post high school course in histotechnology or two year degree in related biologic science
Preferred: - Six to twelve months experience in histotechnology
Licensure/Certification RequirementsRequired: - NYS Histological Technician Certification or NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician Certification and appropriate training is required
